Here's one of my current 'in progress' works. It's a 1/10 resin bust from Andrea miniatures, representing the elf Ithandir (that is also available in both 54mm and 32mm). Its another really great sculpt work from mr. Freeman. You never get tired of his minis, really.

Here's the mini after being cleaned up and right before undercoating.

I actually have it a bit more advanced, but I'll just let you suffer a bit.

Decided to tease us, did you? Oh well. I love to change scales from time to time, just for the novelty of working on something different.

Looking forward to watching your progress...

Eheh!

Ok, so here's the first step. You can see what the colour scheme will be...sorta...

Image

For now was only doing some real work on the metal armour (its not finished though). Not the most usual place to start with but I wasn't sure how to handle such a large surface with real metallics and, if I didnt like the way it turned out, I would probably need to strip it.

By the way, the face will be pale yes... but not THAT pale!

See you soon!

Reminds me of something WETA might own, nice start, the armour is looking great and that's a fantastic sculpt!

Ok, next picture. The armour is a bit more advanced, but the main work was on the flesh this time.
As you can see, the colours are a bit odd, with lots of contrast. The idea is that this will help the next layers that will be painted over and that will make it look paler and smoother... and hopefully a lot better. I'm toying with the transparecy of the acrylics, basicly...

See you soon!

Hehe I was gonna say, taking the interpretation of fair-skinned to a very fine line :P It'll be interesting to see how the face turns out as it's the focal point of the bust. What are you planning to do with the brooch?

You are painting so many of these larger scale figures lately, and I have to say....

What a great job you are doing :yay:

When you first came here, I thought your painting skills were average to say the least, but over the last 2 years, you have simply gone from strength to strength !!!! and I hate to say this, but you just keep getting better and better Miguel Ângelo Soares Ferreira Cancela !!!

The armour is looking fantastic, the face is looking awesome, although I think it is sculpted with his eyes shut ? , which is disappointing, but takes nothing away from how you have painted him so far.

Love it Mac !!! Look forward to seeing him completed.

OK, a bit more work on the flesh. Amazing how a few thin layers can make such a difference. The previous work still shows through this 'normal' flesh layers, making all the volumes show up. Of course, still lots of fine tunning to do...

And a close-up:

Not sure yet how the brooch with come out. Silver metal for sure, have no idea about the gem. Maybe blue-ish. There two more, one on each shoulder pad.

What will probably give me some headaches is the cloak. So much fabric... :?

I'm so jealous on your painting-qualities Miguel.
This is so fantastic!
The colours of that plated armour is so realistic!
Have I ever told you how much I love you?

A really gorgeous sculpt and the painting is tremendous - the armour puts me in mind of the WETA patterns used for the High Elves and for Theoden.

Well, lets keep this thread moving...

Here's how it looks at the moment. Been working on bits n' bobs, improving this and that. Major work was probably the cloak, but there is still plenty to do there. Really need to sort that 'plastic look' in there. The fact that it turned out with a satin finish isnt helping much either.

WOW!

Miguel, this is really high quality work! Love the armour, face, hair, everything! Maybe adding some brown or grey to teh greenwill help against the 'plastic' look?

wow, absolutly stunning! High quality painting for sure. The face is the most beautiful IMO. The expression is very natural and the colors are very well chosen. Is it a combination of highlighting, shading, blending and glazing?
The armour look also very realistic, especially the silver ornaments. ( Although i prefer NMM  )
The only think i would try to improve is the hair, i would make the contrasts a bit stronger, although i can see the hair isn't the easy part of the model!
good work!

I haven't posted in this thread in a while, but I'm still checking it every time I see an update. I have to say, Mac, that your work is absolutely stunning. The purple shade to the skin looked so weird at first, but it has given the face such a life-like quality. Amazing!

I could go on and on, but I'll wait so that I still have something to say when it's finished.
