Info & Rules: 1. A race and/or region are decided upon before each monthly Sculpting & Converting challenge, this months' being... In this challenge you have several options to take part: - Sculpt from scratch (starting with or without armature/metal wire/...) - Convert an existing Hobbit-miniature (to a new or another character or race/region, to change it's situation, rank, pose, wargear, ...) - Convert a completely different miniature into a Hobbit 2. To enter the Sculpting & Converting Challenge, the miniature you are converting must not be converted nor painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-converted'. Re-converting an already converted miniature is NOT allowed!! When sculpting from scratch, you must picture proof this with your blank armature/metal wire/... aswell as a work-in-progress-picture as valid proof. All "proof-pictures" MUST either have the announcement-screen of the running challenge in it's background, or contain a small note with the announced theme and date written on. 3. You may join the Sculpting & Converting Challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of your completed work by midnight GMT of November 30th . WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. You are allowed to use any sort of sculpting epoxy, aswell as scratchbuild materials (such as metal wire, plasticard, rivets, chains, ...). You are allowed to use parts from other miniatures (such as weapons, heads, banners, arms, horses, ...). Your final work must stay UNPAINTED and contain 4 pictures; showing FRONT, BACK, LEFT and RIGHT side. 4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed sculpts/conversions. Votes should be cast not simply on sculpting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of techniques, artist improvement, originality etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to improve their sculpting skills and to encourage creativity onto their shelves. 5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months Sculpting & Converting Challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months. Good luck to all! |

It starts on the 1st of November, but TBB is off to New Orleans on the weekend and so posted up the rules before he leaves. This is the first event in our 'Hobbit Month' |

Nice sid! Curious to how it will turn out. I was thinking about a hobbit riding a pig. Still gotta think about it a bit. I need to have everything planned out well if i want to finish it in time. Caus i would have to sculpt the pig too and it would be easyr to be done b4 the hobbit. Tough i also tought about sculpting gollum... Needs some thinking over what i would prefer.. |

Maybe, just maybe, I'll get my sculpting tools and green stuff in time, and then I MIGHT enter a conversion of Frodo to Young Bilbo, but I don't think so... |

So is this replacing the painting challenge for this month? |

No, it's not replacing the painting challenge. That comp is still running and doing a Hobbit theme too. |

This is my armature , took a bit to much green stuff so i stuffed it all up. Witouth the greenstuff the armature would fall apart. It's quite a stiff wire so it was the only option i had (except for taking another kind of wire..) But since i use this wire for all my sculpts b4.. i am going to do it with this. No this isn't the hobbit yet. But they might be pretty related in some way. Think they both like food. Small edit for mr oink! |

Heh heh. That is coming on nicely. I don't think I'm going to be able to to enter this month, even though I really really wanted to. The half term has set me behind on commissions, and I need to catch up to keep my clients happy. So good luck to the budding sculptors out there! |

to bad, wanted to have seen what u would have come up with!(Sauron the hobbit perhaps? ) i think i ll still will be needing quite some time to improve the pig. I want to have a correct feeling of the shapes. I only sculpt once a day, and only a small bit. I should tune it up to 2 times or i never finish it up in time. |

This little piggy went to market. Lol. I know what you mean about sculpting sessions. Its not like painting where the only waiting is a few minutes for a wash to dry. Curing putty layers take like an hour or two before the next bit can be added. Lots of patience required! |
