Post subject:  Batrep 5 - Mor.... uhh No.. Even vets can get it wrong!

This was going to be a nice Batrep of some orc vs elf fight to the death... Some nicely tweaked lists and trialling some still (relatively) new factions for us.

But about halfway through we realised that we had been giving the elves shooting the wrong to hit chances vs the Morannon orcs.. killing on 6s (and 5 from the flank) Instead of 6/4 (and 6 on the flank) which should have halved the Morannon casualties, which were seeming rather high, even when being peppered by 100 longbows at one stage.

It was too late to 'do-over' and too critical to simply discount. So we called the honours even and carried on to just cause some mayhem and ignore the victory conditions or any 'victory'. In addition I forgot the Betrayer's special rule one key attack on the woodelf archers... You wouldnt believe we have 200+ games of WotR between us! Just goes to show, even veterans of the system can have a mindblock!

Anyway, out of interest, here are some pics and a few notes

It was battle for pass and Sieze the High ground. Mordor on the near side has 2 formations of 4 co Morannons, and 2 Formations of 4 Co Orc and shield lined up in the centre and right. Two siege bows are in the building on the hill at the front - Not the cleverest when facing a foe with 3 casters with Nature's Wrath! The Tainted and The Betrayer lead the armies, and just by the other hill is 1 co Castellans (who did nothing useful all game)

The elves have Gildor in the woods, 2 formations of 3 Co wood elf bowmen on the hill, and supported by 2 Formations of 4 Co WoMT in their centre, and are the far flank 3 Co Galdhrim and shields.

As a House Rule, we have nerfed the elf point costs by about 20% (10 points cheaper for every company, heroes and legendary base costs the same). It does make them now more cost effective.

Mordor made the elves move first, to see where those longbows would be, and try and lure the elves down the battlefield. Then The Betrayer and the Tainted moved to a formation of Morannons, cast Wings of terror to move within charge range of the pesky lonbows, planning to charge kill the defence 3 elves and call heroic fight to then charge the second rank of them. But they roll snake eyes on the Terror test... The best laid plans of Mice and nazgul come to naught.

This was a little before we realised the mistakes, and the Morannon on the left now with the Nazgul is being pummelled. You can see that Gildor came out to play and the Ambushing orc trackers popped in the woods behind him.

We kept playing, eventually the Nazgul destroyed those woodelves on the hill. The Morannons on the Left were wiped out. Thranduil and his 4 Co WomT were wiped out by spells and the pounding Siege Bows. The 2 siege bows did well... only actually missing 1 shot in 5 turns!

In the end running out of time we packed away and took it as a learning experience, but had a good time nonetheless.
