My Friend is collecting a Rohan army and asked me to give him some advise on what to use to utilise them the best. I said "not Sure". Great help eh?
So what do you all think? What would be a great Rohan army? We tend to play 1000-1200 point games. Thanx all x

What is the best ally for the Rohan? If your using Rohan Knights what allies would you include?

Cheap ES heroes are very important.

Radagast or Saruman (if you have the pts) to stop enemy charges.

The last 1000pt Rohan List I played was this:

Epic Heroes:
Theoden
Eomer
Erkenbrand
Deorwine
Legendaries:
6 Companies King's Guard Mtd
Plus Royal Standard of Rohan
Common:
6 Companies Royal Knights
Theoden's Guard Battlehost
Now for Wrath, Now for Ruin Fortune

I deploy Theoden in the King's Guard while I deploy Eomer, Erkenbrand and Deorwine with the Knights. With Erkenbrand and Theoden both calling Epic Charges, this army hits the enemy line hard. To counter Dragons, Balrogs, Khamul and the like, Deorwine and Theoden can use Epic Sacrifice (a desperate measure I know) to reduce the number of wounds their formation suffers and perhaps win the fight. The follow up charge from For the King guarantees the utter devastation of the enemy formation. :-D

You could also build the following army;

Epics:
Erkenbrand
Common:
Riders of Rohan (4 Companies w/ Capt)
Riders of Rohan (4 Companies w/ Capt)
Riders of Rohan (4 Companies w/ Capt)
Riders of Rohan (4 Companies w/ Capt)
Riders of Rohan (4 Companies w/ Capt)
Riders of the Westfold Battlehost

With the Valour of the Hammerhand Virtue, this army won't suffer too badly against enemy monsters or cavalry. Able to harass the enemy with bows and mobility, the Riders could stay out of combat long enough to whittle the enemy ranks down before sweeping them aside with a cavalry charge.

Yes, both lists are weak against armies hiding in defensive terrain but unless you take a large Royal Guard contingent Rohan always struggles to take defensive terrain.

I doubt those lists would do well against a horde of Prowlers and Blackshields with both Gobbo heros, 2 Ringwraiths and possible extras.

I've had the first list successfully take on a Khamul-led Black Guard, Morgul Knights, 2 Goblin Hordes, a dragon and Durburz in one battle. You are right though, GtW, they do struggle against those kinds of lists but they are still pretty powerful lists IMOAE.

The basic idea would be to combo the better Rohan heroes (Eomer, Eorl, Deorwinë) with Royal Knights for some serious hitting power, and then use the leftover points on (in more or less order of preference): an Istari, Royal Guard/Allied MT Warriors (a reliable center), an allied cheap hero (Faramir, Imrahil), anything else.

But that's off the top of the head of someone who hasn't even seen Rohan played, just on the basis of what you see appearing a lot.
