NLJT, yes people can spend 1200 out of 1500 on monsters, read some of the old topics

Really Gothmog? How do they hold up in all honesty against lots and lots of infantry?

Well, they tend to be pretty situational, EH2K monsters can survive a while, depending on the army, and they're usuall layed for fun

And one spell is SfC.

The problem though Xelee with Mumak's is that they can run into things and be killed, so 250 points is quite a lot when you stand and watch in horror as it stampedes off the table. Lol

It certainly did. a GW person called it 'a proper herd'. even though we lost, it was so fun, i wanted to see them all march ahead, but one of them only moved 3" in the first turn. on the plus side that mumak was the last to die.

SfC and other direct damage spells that do not target defense. The Balrog is worst of all because even the Command list targets it but Darkness and Dismay have their place and Wilderness can be pretty useful vs the Mumak.

Heroes? Legolas, Lurtz, Aragorn (and the others with +2), Boromir, Gandalf, (I feel like an idiot for even mentioning it ) Khamul, other Wraiths.... I am sure there are others.

NotLegolasJustTipsy, all I can say is that while many things have some specifiable downside (though find me the ones for the 'training wheels' choices), the Mumak is widely held to be one of the better pieces in the game.

That'll learn you. It glitched on me too but I went back, c+p'd the text and then confirmed I hadn't posted before hitting re-submitt. You guys are overloading the system! Fewer, longer, posts.

(edit) there you go.

I have seen Mumaks stampede on the first turn before the owner got to move it at all and I have seen them survive the whole game (while stampeding) with 13-14 wounds on them. They are by far the most random, unpredictable model int eh game, and that is what makes them so fun.

A couple of posts advised to lose the banners, I agree and disagree.

Lose the banner for infantry, yes.

For cavarly I would not, unless your putting an epic or captain even then its costing you might to get where you want, and the banner would just give you a whole re roll on the charge. So i think, keep the banners for the cav and lose the infantry ones, for obvious reasons.

I guess it depends on the board layout really! Lots of terrain would make them difficult to use wouldnt you say?
