Most people are aware that there was some kind of problem with the site yesterday. A message was displayed saying that it couldn't connect to the database.

I discovered this while I was at work unfortunately and had to wait 8 hours until I got home before I could attempt to fix it.

It turns out that our database had been moved to a different server by our lovely hosting company without them telling us. So the configuration file that tells our forum software where to go looking for the database was pointing to the wrong place.

Thank POWWEB for their less-than-excellent customer service. It was a 2 second fix, but it took me about an hour to work out exactly what had gone wrong. And I could have addressed the problem immediately if they had warned me that they were going to move us.

So, there you have it. My apologies for the loss of service.

How polite of them. You could complain and, in all actuality, probably sue them.

Anyhow, glad it's working, although I was fortunate enough to not have such a problem (so I didn't even know that there was one, lol ).

I wondered what happened when I logged on for my daily stop and it was giving the message. I just figured it was maintenance or something though. Thanks for fixing it so quickly.

Great job Dagorlad, like eorltheyoung said, it would be disastrous if the site went down.
