Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has this sourcebook, what they think of the rules, the game and if it is worth getting? Also can you tell me if you need alot of miniatures or is it more on a skirmish level? Thank much in advance! P.S. If you have the book and are willing to trade it, please PM me. Thanks again!! |

Have Dave, I have said book in question. Think of it as very much a hybrid of the LotR SBG rules and Necromunda. It's a very small scale game, most starting gangs will be around 6-10 minis, and less if mounted. Also, I have a vast collection of suitable models lying around gathering dust. |

Dave, I have the core rulebook for Legends of the Old West, as well as the Alamo, Frontier and Showdown sourcebooks - without fail, these are consistently excellent in their quality, both in terms of presentation and in playability. Mark Latham is responsible for the adaptation of the LOTR rules and has pulled in the best bits of a few other systems, including the gangs concept from Necromunda and some massed combat rules that they really should put back into LOTR. It is a little different to playing a LOTR game though, despite the similarity of the game mechanics. Pretty much all of the models in the game have similar abilities and so you don't get the tactical diversity that LOTR brings (i.e. no pike blocks or heavily armored troops). And 'pluck' (courage) plays a lot more part in the game - your models will dive for cover a lot more when they are shot at. But that's ok, 'tactics' in an Old West showdown really meant run and shoot - a lot. It's a heck of a lot of fun and is simply one of the best products to have come out of GW in years. |

Could anyone tell me how many miniatures I will need to play this? I'm going to buy the rules, and I need to know how many minis I have to buy. |

Roughly about 6-8 per gang/posse/whatever, depending on how you arm them. You'll be lucky to get 5 in a gang if they are mounted though. |
