A really iconic moment from both the books and movies is the Denethor Funeral Pyre scene, so after puzzling over how to create this as there is only one Denethor Model I hit upon an idea that would be quite hard but with a little work and patience may work.

I have sawed off the head and re positioned it. I have used greenstuff around the join and pierced it with lots of tiny dots. I originally had two arms but they looked awful so I attached one arm with greenstuff, naturally it had to be the arm holding the candle. WIP but hopefully will turn out ok. Im looking forward to creating the Pyre was thinking of using Willow Branches The big question is should I also have Faramir on the pyre? It maybe quite difficult finding a suitable Faramir model however there have been much more models released, maybe the head of one Faramir on the body of a suitable victim. Thoughts?

I agree Faramir would be quite difficult to do. You'd need a model laying on it's back in the right way. I'd say scratch sculpting would probably be you're best bet because any conversions of GW pieces would near that in the end

I only got into this wonderful hobby in January so sculpting may be difficult I was thinking maybe switching the head of Faramir with either Elendil or Isildur as they are prone however that then poses problems regarding armour.

That was my thought too (the armor problem) I just don't know of any LOTR models that are prone and dressed to match what you're looking for

There is a Finecast casualties set that if I recall correctly has at least one warrior of Minas Tirith. Since Faramir was taken to be burnt after attacking Osgiliath, and he wad in full armour then, it should work

Really appreciate that bit of info James I will try and hunt a copy down on Ebay. I think I spend more time buying the darn things than painting them.I took the candle from the Goldberry Model but I didn't want to take her arms, however I really need to work on the one I attached as it looks out of scale. Really appreciate all the help and advice guys.

You could also try converting the fallen Isildur or Elendil models from the Sauron set.

As he is holding the candle I'm not going to add flames, I was however thinking of adding an oily layer to his hair and clothes to represent the moment when he douses himself in the oil. However I have no idea if there is a way to make that work. Any Ideas? The substance would have to be something which maintains the look and does not dry out.

A coloured varnish seems the option to me. Try it out first with a little colour added to a test piece. Depending on gloss or matt you can get the look of oil. I would try for a satin finish to give it a slight sheen.
