Post subject:  Sithious W.I.P. Apr-14-2014 Cirith update

Thank you for visiting my WIP page.
I had a very long active thread on TLA and last year I retired it, it was not that it was not a good thread, but it was a lot to go through for pictures and I had to maintain the links for those pictures. I eventually had to rebuild my website so I did a spring cleaning and so, well, that is that. Thread was retired.
I have since did a pop in thread or two on TLA and updated some of what I was working on. It was ok, I will keep up some of that there just to maintain the presence.
When I came over here I realized just how active a lot of you are in painting, this is what I need, people like me painting and sculpting with regular updates to keep me going. I felt happy again to see all the work and kindred relationship to the hobby.
So... I didn't know how to begin a WIP here, I didn't want to go back over all the stuff I have done in the past. I can tell you that I am well rounded. I convert, I paint, I make terrain. I am not an expert in any, I am not horrible either, I make some stuff I really like and try to improve as I go.

So that is me. I do actually listen to critiques, I have in the past altered paint jobs when good advice came, sometimes I stubbornly keep things as they are... but that is the hobby.
Anyway what I am working on right now is, sculpting fell wargs, painting up fell wargs, hunter orcs, etc. I have two terrain projects that I return to often, one is my Goblin Town which will have a dwarven fort/city above it (multi level) and I have been glueing bricks on my Cirith Ungol which will take forever. So here are some random pics to warm things up and save this thread.

I also just finished that Troll in the Monster Comp, so that was really my latest finished piece.
Right now I am sculpting Torg the Bear Hunter. He will have a back story and profile. He is just above a captains rank, enough influence to be a threat to other orc chiefs, yet he is wise enough to know that and keep away. He has become a survivor, paying tribute from raids to chieftains to gain influence or to trade, bringing scouting info across the Mountains, but alliances are thin with any specific chief. His warg is deathly loyal to him, they have been through a lot, and there is a rule akin to the twins to have the warg avenge him. I have played with idea's about making him work against beorn or want to avoid beorn at all costs, not sure which way to go... Beorn should hate this guy. So any help in the profile, let me know your idea's as nothing is in writing yet.

It will look a lot better when the sculpting is done and he is painted. I also have a version on foot, so making them both look alike has been tricky back an forth.
I have many examples of what I have worked on the last month, here are some;

For some reason these didn't link right and I could not get them to show up. but these are just some of the hunters/wargs I have finished in the last few weeks. I think they are a fun army to paint up, I plan to see them in battle very soon as well.

Really nice work Sithious! I just browsed your website today.. it would be cool if you could make a tutorial for the way you painted the goblin king! Your's is honestly one of the best painted versions i've seen so far!

Is one of the Trolls converted from a war hammer ogre? If so which one and how did you do it? Great models! Loving all the trolls!

Wonderful stuff here, Sithious. I had seen your Grond before, and it is AWESOME.

Love the green Arwen.

It's cool that you're putting so much character into your Hunter Orcs. I think that on Torg it should be that he is Beorn's "Public Enemy #1."

The One Ring is the best when it comes to inspiration and helpful members!

Thanks everyone. Grond took a long time to make but I think it looks great on the field scene there. I pretty much had to look at the pictures of it on the extended appendixes and watching the films scene over and over. I drew it out, started solving for the problems of scale to our miniatures so they can be on it. Then buying suitable cheap materials to make what I drew. The beasts were fun to make as well, and the yoke. I highly recommend these kinds of projects to give yourself a army centerpiece.

Some really inspiring work here. You're absolutely right about having a centrepiece for an army. How many of us actually do so though?

Superb job sculpting Grond. He's top notch!

Thank you everyone. The painters on this forum are so good that it is making me want to paint better, at the same time the community is making me want to play more games... Very cool. Great to be here. I will be following many of you guys on here to get inspired to push my painting...I have video's on wet blending and have been putting off using it and working on it, will have to fiddle with it now as it looks great on LOTR mini's.

to answer questions;
No, I did not use Ogre parts on any trolls. if not in the kit, I sculpted it as best I could.
Cirith Ungol, I have lots of idea's for this project and so it is in a fiddle stage of making bricks while unsure if I want to restart the project and go a different way. Wish I had Hirst block molds. I will see what I can get for pics on this.

update;
Torg is ready for paint, it is not perfect but I will start painting him and Fimbul tonight. Fimbul has to be my favorite looking hunter.
For now I have these two guys. I have to tweak the shoulder on the first one, I missed some highlights, but he will look mostly the same (they are tabe top troops anyway). But I know I was rushing these a bit, painting, sculpting and making battle reports at the same time in my off hours I am not parenting. So I have good excuses. And I will take a visit to them to be sure I tighten it up.
