Hi there,

I thought I might present you my current project, which I try to document ass much as possible to show the different stages of work. Thanks to Dead Marshes Spectre I recently acquired, what is for me one of the most beautiful sets in the LOTR range: Fog on the barrow downs, containing, 4 paralized Hobbits, 4 Barrow-wights aswell as Tom Bombadil and Goldberry:

Image

All of these models are beautifully sculted and full of detail! Furthermore, I'm painting up the 4 Hobbits in unparalized stade to be able to play the scenario! I'm also working on the barrows themselwes and want to create a few forest bases with 3-4 trees each to complete the terrain!

Here is a first WIP picture of the barrows, a small teaser for the upcoming project:

Image

I build the barrows from styrodur on a fibreboard base. The larger "stones" are resin plaster copies of pine bark, which is normally very fragile. I sprayed the pieces of bark with gloss varnish and created the moulds with 2 components silycone. The resin plaster casts are very hard and will withstand gaming without any damages. The barrows were then sanded and primed in dark gray with the airbrush (to keep the styrodur from melting due to the spraypainter), a second layer of colour (darkish sand tone, the same colour I use on my bases) was then applied by airbrush.

I hope you like my little project so far and stay tuned for what is to come in the (near future)!

Are you going to create a removable top for one of the barrows to include the struggle of Frodo to sing out for Old Tom Bombadil . . . (yeah you know you just sang the rest of it)?

You're right, there are some great sculpts in that set.

The barrows look very promising so far and I look forward to seeing how they turn out.

Fine barrows. Fogs on the Barrow Downs is one of my favourite sets as well, despite containing Tom Bombadill. :-D
