Excellent as always, great work! The eye of Sauron on their shields is a nice touch and something I haven't seen before.

The edge of the bases could be painted cleaner. Thes models are really beautiful, so that the effect of uneven bases pulls down the overall picture.

Haha yeh i picked up on that too. The bases got stuck to the paintstation on this batch which gave them the uneven look. i've since cleaned that up.

They look awesome Kev, and paint job worthy of the Dark Lord's most valued servants ;)

Much appreciated guys.

Been busy working on the easterlings again this time with a commanders set included in the batch. Had to call it a day early on these guys as lots of projects going on this month with trying to get something ready for this years Golden Demon competition aswell as working on clients bookings. All go in the Dead Marsh Spectre household.

Thankfully there is another set of commanders to do for this same army and I will be giving them the one to one treatment as soon as I have a little more time. Hope you like them.

More pictures as usual on the Shadow & Flame website

What's not to like :)

Clever idea to make the commanders stand out a bit more with the steppe.

I always thought the easterlings should have been seen more often in RotK - they have a distinctive appearance. Great job on all of them!

Quick break from the easterlings to paint up an Aragorn. Painting single mini's is a breath of fresh air after all the batch painting.

But a batch of 1000 orcs is really just a lot of single minis in rapid succession :)

Ha thats one way of looking at it. Batch painting seems to take an age before the models start to look anywhere near finished. Most single minis these days take 3 hours start to finish.

Yep Aragorn was 3 hours start to finish. I'm an hour into EFGT Gandalf and he's just about finished too.

Excellent painting, once again! Aragorn is impressive! Very smooth highlighting, as usual. 8) The base also looks superb! Love the heather! I'm sure you told it somewhere in the thread, but how did you make it?
My only point of criticism, if I may, would be his sword. The left bottom part seems to be a bit dark to my taste.

3 hours is also impressive by the way! Must be the experience. I'm wondering, do you still enjoy painting as much as before? Or is it very different now it's professional? I reckon it must be difficult to stay motivated sometimes.

Anyway, keep up the great work! :yay:

Thanks Feanor.

Yes lol.. that sword. The problem I had with it is it was quite twisted and mis shapen and no matter how hard i tried I could not get the thing to be straight on all sides. When i straightened one side to a point I was happy with the other side looked awful. This meant that I couldn't give the sword blade a nice clean highlight as it just would not have looked right. I opted to give it a dirty battered look that you see here. Is definitely the weak point I agree.

The heather I bought from a shop on ebay although it is relatively easy to make. Take some Army Painter grass tufts and buy some coloured fine and from ebay and simply glue the sand to the tips of the grass tufts.

I do still love to paint and don't suffer too much with motivational issues. I have a wife and 3 kids to think about and painting is my only source of income so I don't have the luxury of being able to fall behind in my work. The only down side to painting for a liiving is I get a lot less of my own collection painted these days. On the flip side I appreciate it a whole lot more when i do manage to paint something for my display case.

Ah, I see. I remember the sword of my BotPF Aragorn being twisted. Maybe it's something with the cast (or sculpt) in general.

Thanks for the tip! I have done a similar technique to make flowers (make grass tufts of long grass, make a mix of paint and flock and apply to the top of the tuft), but this looks better. Funny, didn't expect it was just fine sand. But thanks!

Yeah, I reckon you don't have much time to be unmotivated. ;) Good to see you manage though. It seems you're painting huge numbers of models!

Keep it up! :)
