I've made one mould and have begun another. The first mould looks good but I've not tested it yet. I like to leave the latex a few days before casting.

Can't wait for that though! Taking a new cast out of a mould for the first time is like magic! :D

Do you need a wand? :-)

Take pics of the 'birth' of this new casting, please.

HH2 - very nice. So have you started on HH3 yet?

Of course I need a wand! I will take some pictures of the birth. Hopefully the labour won't be too arduous or the pictures too gruesome.

I haven't begun hh3 but I have started some window sections which will be set into the hillside. Not much done on these yet. I'll propably post some pictures for you soon.

What should I call? That it's impressive? I don't wanna insult you that way :P

But lemme ask you something: is this freaky frame, made from PC, intended to be some weird type of wood? Or is this a wicker job, as I always see it like?

<cough> Sorry for that, I guess I had to twist it ;)

I was thinking, are the brown parts of hobbit holes:

Image

...intended to look like wood or like wicker?

Because it looks a bit strange for the wood... and using wicker for the outside details of the hole would be... surprising ;)

Of course, take no offence, it's just my opinion ;)

The yellowy part (milliput) is intended to be lime-washed daub, which was applied to a structure of wattle (woven sticks) - a common building material in the middle-ages.

The grey parts are intended to be a wooden framework - typical of Tudor architecture.

I hope this helps. When I've got one painted, I think you'll see better. :)

:D Something is more or less finished! Yippee!

hh2 fresh out of the mould

I cast this in ultramix plaster. I need to make a stronger mould before experimenting with casting in resin. The cast came out really well with loads of detail. The only thing that it didn't like was the doorhandle. Drat. I think I'll have to make it a bit bigger - certainly its neck, in order to let the plaster, resin get in there.

hh2 painted
This was a treat to paint.

Now I need to make a hill! ... and a new doorhandle.

Marvellous and now we can see how you sculpt so well - you are a halfling!

Heheh.
We'll have to start calling you the Boy Wonder.

Cast looks great with such a realistic paint job. I especially like the way you did the stonework with different shades. I think most of us would have just done them all the same colour, but once again you exceed all expectations.

Cool. 8)

Very , Very nice Cast ! and painted to honour the Paintjob!

What is that small halfling miniature that keeps appearing in front of the Hobbit hole ? is it you in a full scaly metal suit , as to keep the illusion that you can sculpt so well and detailed in 25mm scale ?

Absolutely spiffy Natarn! Can't wait to see these as an actual hobbit hole (with the hill that is  ).

Great job, man ;)

Now I'm certain, what you wanted to achieve with the frames.

And the photo with the model in front of hh... knocked me down :P Whole the time I thought about it as about something about 8cm high  (w/out chimney)

Also, stunning work on the stones... I'd have to try for ages to have any chance to achieve comparatively great effect...

The stones were pretty easy to sculpt and actually very simple to paint. I'm sure you could do it. :D

I did an undercoat of codex grey followed by a wash of chaos black.
Next I drybrushed fortress grey then white. 'Standard' stone painting.
The next trick is really simple. Just add a thin wash of various browns to individual stones. I used washes of bestial brown, graveyard earth, desert yellow and terracotta. To finish it off I drybrushed the whole chimney with chaos black to tone it down a bit. This stopped it from looking too shiny and new. I added more black at the top of the chimney to give it a burnt, 'sooty' look.

Thanks for advice, I should try it as soon as I find some nice stonework to paint :D <thinking intensively>
