Following a conversation in the chatbox earlier, I was prompted to show some pics of some the Rohan conversions I've done in the past.

Mounted Gamling without banner - Simply a case of carefully removing the banner. The hand is replaced by Theodens, the original sword hilt removed from the scabard, and hair sculpted back on the rear of the head.

Image

If you are careful, the banner can be reused elsewhere.

Image

The mounted version of Eowyn has a spear, whereas all the foot versions are sword armed. An easy fix.

Image

This prompted me to give my spare Eomer the option of a spear.

Image

Hama doesnt have a mounted version, so a simple head swap with a RRG can solve that as they wear the same gear.

Image

I'm also using Gripping Beast plastic Viking Hirdmen models to represent Grimbolds Helmingas because they all have chainmail. The heads are a little large though, so I'll be using Rohan ones. I've shown below how they look with a head swap.

Image

I will also be adding cloaks to them all.

Great job on the mounted Hama! :)
I was thinking of doing a head swap with the mounted Gamling for mine as I don't have the guts to paint that banner.

Nice conversions, especially the making use of spare parts part. The banner placed on a plastic WoR looked like hard work. :yay:

I thought Eowyn can't use throwing spears on foot.

Great, super effective conversions that show how good you are at this stuff: max impact with minimum effort.

The spears you use for these Rohan conversions - it looks like the spear-tips are shaped out of the copper rod itself, then tinned or something. Is that the case? And if so, do you make them yourself? They're perfect for Rohan, and I'd love to know the secret!

Which war-games factory figures are those?

I have got some Viking Huscarls for my new Rohirrim.

Why would you think that? It is an option in her wargear. Throwing spears are not limited to cavalry, the only downside is you cannot support other models with them.

The spears are indeed wire with flattened tips. These can be bought from a number of retailers. EG-

My bad folks, Those are not Wargames Factory, but actually Gripping Beast Plastics (Viking Hirdmen). I'm getting my viking boxsets muddled up! You can't go wrong for 44 minis for 20 quid. Even if the heads are a little big.

"Simply"? I remember spending two Sunday afternoons carving that head with flowing hair away from the banner when I did my Gamling conversions... :)

Anyway, looking great, as usual! 8)

Two afternoons? You need a sharper knife my friend!

Anyhow, I got volunteered to resculpt the corner ornament of the Mother-in Laws prize picture when the string snapped and it fell on the floor.
Image
It was sculpted back in 3 sessions. First layer was Milliputt to create a workable base, then a mix of Milliiput and ProCreate to layout the pattern, and finally ProCreat to detail.
Image
Then it was a case of matching the colours. After masking off, I sprayed it Vegas Gold, which was a bit too light, so then I painted over it with Shining Gold, Washed with Devlin mud, and Highlighted with Burnished Gold. It came out pretty close.
Image

So there you go. Good as new! Completely random, but it goes to show there's more to sculpting and painting than miniature figures :-D

A touch of class mate - love the painting guide - really strange to hear the paint names and be looking at something that isn't a miniature. Good job!!

Good Christ Dave, now you're into antique restoration...is there anything you cannot sculpt? :)
Seriously, that is one hell of a job there...looks amazing and the color matching is perfect! 8)

Wow, that looks like it's never been broken. I bet restoration would pay better than miniature sculpting... :)
