In Warlord Games SPQR, priority is done using the Dice of Fate (!)
It is not a roll to see who goes first in a turn. It is a roll to see who chooses who goes first.
You can allow your opponent to go first, giving you a chance to roll for choosing the next time. So the battle could go - opponent, you (win dice roll) you go again - basically giving you a chance to hit twice before your opponent can.
From SPQR:
If you instead choose to make your opponent go first, you need to weather what they dish out before you can strike back, but you now have that 50/50 chance of the double phase but just as important, if you do not get it, you still have that 50/50 chance in the turn after and your opponent doesn't.
Interesting twist.

On more than one occasion in a Battle Companies game my wife has won priority and said she regretted the roll because she would rather wait to see what I was going to do first.
I wonder if there is some value in a house rule allowing the player with priority to move second by choice but still retain priority through the rest of the turn.... similar to a turn where a heroic move was declared.
