Nearing the big fight to come in a few days, I can't help but go over every detail of my army, my ally's armies, and my opponents armies.

One thing I've seen a lot of is how much Fight Value is important, but in my experiences, FV has only come into play 3-4 times out of dozens of combats.

All my games until the scenario I'm playing this week have been small-scale, so maybe I haven't experienced it yet (also I use an automatic Dice roller).

So what's the big deal?

The more dice each side is rolling, the higher the chance of getting a six, so fight value is very important for heroes, as 3A ones will have four (or five when supported) on the charge), and losing one combat more often than not means that that horse is gone.

a model with a highter fight value wins the duel in case of a draw. Usually, it doesn't happen often in one vs one, but when more dice are rolled, things are different. Getting a six on highter fight value allows to win the duel. The more dice are rolled, the highter the chance to get that six.

an example.

Aragorn charges a mordor troll. They got 3 dice each. But, in case of a draw, the Mordor troll wins (and rends).
A rohirrim charges a uruk line. The Uruk has a better fight value, which means that he can win and strike.

Basically, an highter fight means and highter chance to win.
That's why Heroic Strikes are so important.

Most warriors have a fight value of 3-4 maybe a five if they are an elf. Meaning comparing fight value is happening a lot. Statistically speaking if each side only rolls 1 die, there are only 36 possible dice combinations. At the height of a match this would equate to about two or maybe three turns. It is statistically impossible during that time for no one to roll a duel which results in a tie. One of two things is happening in your games. 1) fight value comes up a lot and you dont notice it because you are sporting high fv pieces. 2) you're just really lucky and you flat out win the duel roll. My guess is the first is more likely.
