Thrain, strong enough to kill other heroes and monsters, and break tests? no problem.

And he is just an awesome model that looks badass.

He is on my must have list!

So far (I've not had many games) my favorite model to play with is The Goblin King. He is an awesome ugly brute, monsterous power attacks plus might will and his special fate roll all for pretty cheap.

Berserkers.

Two attacks, option to use a TH sword, super high courage.

Plus, I love reminding opponents that they have a defence value of 6 even though they don't wear armour.

Thranduil by far, I love the 2 free spells per game. Very effective.

Also very very true......thats in my top 10....I mean, Aura of Dismay channeled is ridiculous. Almost 3 warbands can have terror.

And Natures wrath is something a wood elf army needs to live sometimes. Plus, auto cast, lol thats awesome.

for me personally it would have to be one of the 3 wizards. Whenever I field a major bad-ass fighter, whether he'd be a monster or a hero i'm generally disappointed by my (less then amazing) dice rolls, but when it comes to magic i'm generally in the clear. But where other spell casters run out of will these wizards just keep on going. So for those reasons one of the istari would be my pick.

yeah, considering he kill such a mighty hero as Boromir, which is more than most evil heroes he really sucks in SBG!

What makes Cirion such a popular choice?

3 might and a courage of 4+2 vs terror, all for under 60 pts. He isn't a power house by any means, but if your big hitting hero needs a little bit of back up, this brash, young, LT will jump at the chance to provide you with an extra 2A. And, as already mentioned, he looks cool.

Gilgalad on a horse with a shield.
I am going to S4 +1 to wound your ass with 4 attacks on the charge plus knock down.
This elf has several times taken down 2 eagles in a turn with his friend Glorfindel.
This elf has several times HEROIC COMBATTED off a full wounds batswarm into other models. Once it was a cave drake.
This elf always kills, always takes might away from my opponent in their desperation to stop heroic combats and charging horses.
This elf... is a King of Elves

This Elf, was my very first model. And as such holds a very special place in my heart lol. Just to continue the "this elf" theme

shagrat warleader. he may not be terrible fluffy.. but he is an absolute monster. he has never let me down in the 20 odd games I've used him in. Also he always racks up an impressive kill tally, be the enemy fountain guard, elves, dwarves, or even other mutinous orcs. This guy puts em all down !

I know i already chose my favorite model to use (cirion), but i too must give a shout out to boromir, captain of gondor. So powerful! In my last match he single handedly (literally, no back up) cleared out an entire warband of warg riders, then once he finished them, he started in on a warband of ferals!

Gandalf is also great! He isn't a melee power house like boromir, but such a game changer! He will literally take you from a hopeless situation and turn everything upside down!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned king elessar. He too is soooooOOOOOOOOooooooo good!

Elves are my faction of choice, and I mostly play thematic and scenario games, so I don't often pick based on in-game effectiveness, but I suppose a few of my favorites are:

- pre-The Hobbit Thranduil
- Glorfindel on foot, armored
- Haldir on foot, armored (aiming bow, from the Helm's Deep set)

I also particularly enjoy playing:

- Mauhur* (at some point in the past I had interpreted that character as one of the orcs from the north that joined up with the uruk-hai, so ran a Moria Goblin captain under that name. After being corrected, the name had already stuck, so I still use him that way from time to time)
- Durburz if playing goblins
- Moro Sandybanks of Frogmorton (invented hobbit character, Bandobras Took profile) when defending the Shire from hungry orcs and unsavory ruffians :-D

I'm excited to try some of the dwarves from The Hobbit; I have models for all but Thorin, but still need to find the time to paint them.
