If a model loses a fight in difficult terrain does it still back up a full inch, or half an inch?

Likewise if a model is forced to move, say from a spell, through difficult terrain is the movement also halved?

Thanks.

The magically forced, I'd say yes. The backing out of combat, I'd say no.

You can't change the rules, so I would say both apply. The magically forced unit is moved during the move phase, so it certainly would have all the normal restrictions.
The backing away must be 1", or its trapped. As there is no max movement limit, its not really a problem so they would be free to take into account the extra movement required.. I wouldn't mind seeing models knocked to the ground if they lose in difficult terrain, but not sure how balanced it would be. :)

Isn't the point of moving back 1" to get the loser out of the winner's control zone? I'd say since there's no rule saying difficult terrain can trap models, they have to move the full distance when losing.

I know it sounds strange, but backing away is not a "move", and so the rules for halving your movement value surely must not apply to backing away.

Backing away isn't affected by your movement value- so having an effective movement value of 3 instead of 6 is irrelevant for the purposes of backing away. Whatever your movement value, you still back away 1".

So I see no reason why difficult terrain would alter your ability to back away.

I think if blasted by a Sorcerous blast why would you only move half? Surely being thrown through the air wouldn't matter if it was difficult under foot?

This. It does seem like a strange concept, but they HAVE to move 1" out, regardless of how "difficult" that terrain is. Sir, I concur with your statement.
