Post subject:  Mardin and Vault Wardens

Hi all,

Finally collected a few Vault Wardens and wanted a hero to go with them,

Mardin seemed the obvious choice as he *IS* a Vault Warden.

However, as far as I know, spear support only adds one attack to the shielder, and it's the shielder's stats that are used in combat.

So I guess Mardin would be totally wasted in that capacity, even though flavour wise, he should be perfect for the job?!

I guess the question I have is this: Mardin has 2 attacks, but Mardin backing up a Vault Warden Shield Dude would still result in 2 attacks, rather than three, correct?

Not just that, but in any situation, a guy with a spear can never benefit from having 2 attacks if he's going to be used as support?

Is this a carry over from the original rules alluded to in the text for how spears used to be used?

Seems kinda like as if an elite archer rose through the ranks and through his heroism attained Legolas like archery skills to the point where he was designated as the King's anti-assassin right hand man. Only he's not allowed to use a bow anymore.

Yup, +1A for being supported whoever is doing supporting.

All there is to say really. Mardin's spear's purpose isn't really for support but for the trollbane rule.

You could have mardin supported by a vault warden spear, giving him three attacks. But that would leave the shield with the -1 to win. :)
