As many of you have seen I've been painting up my dwarven army in the WIP section of the site.

My question is that according to my rulebook my dwarf warriors have to choose to either have a 2-H weapon or a 1-H weapon. ("Axe or two-handed axe - choose one.")

The 2-H miniatures all have them holding a 2-H weapon, but also have a 1-H weapon on their belts or similar.
The shield ones are obviously restricted to 1-H weapons.
The bow ones are similarly restricted to bow for ranged and 1-H for close I assume (judging by the wysiwyg of the models).

So now I'm a little confused, are they always at a -1 to hit +1 to wound if they're 2-H or from turn to turn do they have the choice of using 2-H or 1-H?

Similarly, the rangers come in 2-H, throwing axes or bow models. Can the models showing them in the process of wielding throwing axes also have 2-H weapons and 1-H weapons? Can the 2-H weapon models also have throwing axes and/or 1-H weapons?

Anyway, I hope this isn't a totally stupid question, I've never used 2-H weapons before!

The list of war gear for dwarf warriors in the rule book is wrong. Based upon the list in the kazud dum source book a warrior is armed with a hand weapon and can receive a two handed axe for free in addition to what he has to start.
According to the rules dwarf rangers with throwing weapons can also have two handed weapons, I'm not sure how this works for wysiwyg, and already have a hand weapon to start with in addition to the fact that throwing weapons also count as hand weapons.
I hope this solves your problem.

i know how this can be confusing but its very simple. it gives you the extra little weapons on the model because for LoTR you can individualize each model which ever way you want with weapons. WoTR is different. Just use the weapons in the book and make sure the main weapon they are carring is the one you paid the pts for.

moviemonkeyinc: He's playing SBG currently ;)

It's been answered by Dwarf Lord of Ered Luin, so I don't need to ;)

Awesome, thanks for all the answers!
In our recent game we just played WYSIWYG and pretty much did exactly what you said, they all had one handed weapons in addition to what they were holding (2-H, bow, throwing weapon).
Do you think they'll ever update the rulebook?

Unfortunately that is looking very unlikely at the moment. For now we all just have to make do with the different supplements, articles, and errata GW have scattered about. It makes it hard to keep track of things at times, but unless you want to stop playing SBG entirely, there isn't much choice.

Thinking about it, is there nothing in the big rule book that states that all models count as having a hand weapon unless specifically stated as not having one?

As for updating the sourcebooks, that is almost certainly a no for the long foreseeable future. SBG is sort of in a stagnant place, really, where they get sloppy seconds rules derived from WotR, but nothing really to call their own. Not to mention, sourcebooks are going to direct only soon and no new ones are planned (and as far as I'm aware, none of the models in LoME that are mentioned without stats will get them, such as an Easterling Siege Bow etc).
