At the start of the turn before he moves ( and your army is beeing broken) Basically he can remove one evil mini form play (it has to be in base contact with Ugluk) and then he atumatically passes courage test and his stand fast is dubled for that turn...

Very powerful and good stuff and might come in handy occasionally  you can even kill Sauron with it, but Youd be a crazy dog if you did

Ok, thanks Mouth-of-Sauron! 8)

Ugluk is best used in a force with Isengard Orcs running around since they make cheap sacrifices. However, the rule is enough of a game saver that he is a good addition even if your least expensive model is a Uruk-hai Warrior.

In WotR he leads a legendary Uruk-hai Scout unit. I unfortunately can not recall its special rule though. I think it can take a wound to automatically pass a courage test but I will have to confirm that.

I think it's more along the lines of d6 wounds to avoid a failed test, but I'm not 100% on it.

I thought it was something around those lines. Looks like when I am at my local GW tomorrow I need to use my palantir again to take a peak at the rule book.

Gaarew is correct and that is a pretty rough rule for WotR. A roll of a 6 almost annihilates a whole company.

Thanks Angrok and gaarew! 8) I hope I didn't cause you too much trouble!

Yeah that rule seems a bit unfair! :?
So would you still recommend him for an Isengard force, in both SBG and WOTR? :)

Yes, because for SBG the 12" Standfast can be a game-saver, especially with Courage 2/3 minis, and in WotR he also has a rule that gives his Formation an extended charge range and extra attacks.

Glad mine is painted.

Yeah, and he's just such a freakin' sweet mini! I'm thinking of getting a second one and converting him to hold the sword in his right hand and his whip in the left. Only problem is I'd need to get that damn Vrasku with him! :-X

You could always give him a headswap and fill in the gaps between the padding in his armour and use him as a standard Uruk Captain with crossbow.

Yeah, I was annoyed that I would have to get that stupid totally made up Vrasku :x when I buy Ugluk, but that's a good idea gaarew! He could even be made into a scout captain, by taking away his crossbow and equiping him with something else!

Thanks! 8)

Ah, very true! And I DO love converting 8) Thanks Gaarew!

Honestly, an Uruk-hai who shoots better than Haldir? What were GW thinking?!

Probably the same thing when they made Saruman the White better than Saruman the White Hand and cheaper! :x There are tons of examples of underpowered/overpowered characters floating about (Lurtz comes to mind). Vrasku is very strong and should cost more but I do not agree with all of the cries that he is horribly broken.

Anyway, definitely take Ugluk and pick up Vrasku as well (he is a great model if nothing else). I am not sure how good Ugluk is going to be in WotR. Right now he is not looking so great because of that rule but it is far too soon to write him off.

I already have Ugluk, I was just contemplating getting another because of the conversion idea I had. According to Gaarew, he should still be decent in WotR. I imagine his Courage special rule is an optional one. Besides, despite what GW seem to be pushing (all War of the Ring for the next year+) the SBG is far from dead.

I agree and I will not at all be surprised to find myself continuing to focus on the SBG. I do not think that rule is optional though. When I looked at it the wording described the ability as a cause-effect situation (ie you fail a courage test then this happens and you count as passing it).

Mauhur's rules look much better and I really hope GW releases a model for him soon. Still, Ugluk is a great model and even better to have for the SBG. Plus, I am not an expert (yet...) on WotR so perhaps Ugluk has something else that compensates for the vicious side effects of his special rule in WotR.

Don't worry about Ugluk. Just make sure that you also have Lurtz, as his Inspiring: Uruk-hai rule will let nearby formations use his Courage.

Or, better yet, Saruman. He's Inspiring: Master, which means Uruks, Orcs, Dunlendings, Wildmen...

What is the Inspiring rule of Lurtz? I can't find it in his profile in "return of the king" book.

Unfortunately the Inspiring rule is found in the WoTR rulebook, not the SBG rulebook.
