Hi! I seem to recall from the last LOTR rulebook that models armed with daggers got a -1 to their duel roll, but I can't find this in the new Hobbit rulebook. Are daggers now considered equal as hand weapons?

Yes. Only models explicitly referred to as unarmed receive the -1 penalty

(-1 to both rolls, daggers used to be only to duel rolls)

That sucks, it would have taken the Mirkwood rangers extra attack special rule down an appropriate notch.

Yes, I guess they do. Then again, they cost the same as a wood elf warrior (Free Peoples) with the same equipment (elf cloak, elf bow) and stat line, but the mirkwood rangers get their special rule, and the possibility of 100% bow limit for "free".

But I agree, pretty expensive models. I'd prefer the Free Peoples elves being cheaper than the Rangers being more expensive.

Honestly, Rangers struggle to make thier points back. They are not too powerful at all. They only look that way on paper but they are very difficult to use. They need that special rule and bow limit to be any good.

Its a reflection to help the Mirkwood list....theres very few units.

As for the free peoples Elves.....they have their uses, and so do the rangers.

Dont be so sure man. Ive had a warband of them hold back and then kill most of a Gondor force twice their size. They are actually easy to use and be a pain in your opponents ass even as a beginner. Hard to shoot, and improbable to beat in a fight with ANY other race in the game. Only heroes monsters and some harad units can match or beat their fight value and have as many attacks. You can take 5 of these against 20 orcs and those orcs will have difficulty taking them out easily.
