This is probably a really stupid question but we're just going to start playing SBG (from big blue and not Hobbit) and I wanted to make sure I got this right, the only time you use the melee fight value is if the dice rolled (which is based of your attack stat) are drawn?

Welcome and hope you enjoy the game! The role of the Fight value may not seem like much, but it definitely adds up over time.

Yep, players of other GW games apparently call this "the game of sixes". Two people drawing their top dice happens surprisingly often. Statistically if just rolling one die each it'll happen 1:6 times.

Aye, defintely don't underestimate the importance: it's not just automatically winning if you roll a 6 (as others can't get higher than that, and you win the draw), but drawing on any number will grant victory to those with the higher F value. Few things more satisfying than rolling a 1 with your Elf but still winning because your opponent does the same...

Yep! Everyone seems to use "roll 6" as the discussion point for Fight value. I see a LOT more ties during a game that are NOT 6. Fight value comes into play more often than tying on a 6.

I must admit I didn't think there was much use for it on my initial read through the rules but it is apparent that this just isn't the case.
