Hi,

I'm quite new to Lotr SBG, and I'm trying to get a grip on basic rules and tactics. One thing confuses me: from my understanding a model with a spear cannot support a model that carries a two-handed weapon or a shield. But looking at tips online, army lists and for instance the Minas Tirith warriors box, I kinda get the feeling I'm missing something.

So, can a model with a shield get supported by a spear in some way after all?

You can support a shield armed model unless they are shielding, which is different than just being armed with a shield. Though not a mini armed with a two-handed weapon. Have a closer reread of both the section of the rulebook that talk about spear and shields.

Almost, but not exactly. All models have a hand weapon (p. 42). If a warrior has multiple close combat weapons, he can use either of them in the Fight phase (p. 42). Therefore, a warrior armed with a two-handed weapon also has a hand weapon unless specifically noted otherwise, and can choose which to use in the Fight phase.

Spear-armed warrior can not support a friendly model, which is using two-handed weapon, but if the warrior armed with a two-handed weapon is using his one-handed weapon that turn, he can be supported. (p. 43).

(page numbers refer to The One Rulebook.)

Yes, that could be considered a bit advanced rule, especially since it's not said in just one page but requires combining rules from here and there. Good point. :)
