There are some us contenplating staying with the old ways of writing lists, just keeping the new profiles (adjusted fight, int score, points etc.) Or just staying with the old rules as they are - adapting the new profiles to fit the old version instead.

I have always considered LL’s the beginning of the end of this game. And this new edition seems to down that rabbit hole of shoehorning our listbuilding into their idea of what is themed. Im guessing they will do something along the lines of the legions of middle earth - with restrictions and bonuses like LLs.

Just updated with Rise of Angmar stuff.
Hopefully not many issues in there.

I find this an invaluable reference. Hope it gets updated with the revised profiles and Army lists, plus the option for Open Play where I can put logical things together (like horses with rangers).

I don't really have plans to make a spreadsheet for the new edition to be honest.

The army building part doesn't take too long to make, but the army list portion takes ages to make the first version.
Also, there's no easy way of making an open play version in excel.
Would probably need to make it in app form to enable that level of freedom.

Sounds like a lot of work. It has been very helpful over the years. I will miss it's passing to the Gray Havens and over the sea.

Might think about it again when the Middle-Earth book comes out, but its too much work for army lists I don't like and would never use.
Don't have much hope tbh, doubt they'll have duplicate army lists of the ones they have in the LOTR one but for book version.
If by some miracle they do make book versions of the army lists then I'll prolly make a spreadsheet, slowly.
Really don't get why they threw out the old mode, was pretty nice to leave us the freedom to make the version we wanted.

I share your opinion about the new lists. I never gonna use them either, but I intend to continue playing. Im also a TO running international events - and Ive told my community if Im not playing, Im not TO’ing either. And I run the largest events in my country/region.

So Im working on alternative rules for armybuilding. Currently Im thinking the following;
* Faction based lists. Where you are free to ally across factions.
* Retaining wargear from the previous edition. Which sometimes will mean some profiles will need sone tweaking.
* Using heroic tiers from the previous edition.
* Limiting army building to units from either Lotr, hobbit or war of the rohirrim period.

So you may build a Hobbit evil army, a lotr good etc.

Its gonna be an alternative for players so the may either choose to pick the official scenario-lists or build list of their own using the guidlines above. And ofc there will be incentives for chosing the latter.

I think that might be a form of open play that is possible to use your builder for?

yeah more split lists would be usable.

The new edition also comes with the absurd split between "middle-earth" and "lotr", even though a lot of the profiles that'll be in "middle-earth" are straight out of the Lord of the Rings books. Guessing WB asked GW to do that.
Sadly my favourite guys aren't even available atm in the current edition (Glorfindel and Imrahil)

Yeah the release schedule is not ideal, it adds to the other issues with this edition. Im not sure which is worse - the Legion only style of picking armies, the stripping of wargear or the silly dismount rules (official models only).

Im running the Norwegian qualifyer for the Ardacon Masters in March. In running in 6th edition - to mixed responses. But as long as the game is not complete I can not run in the new edition (besides I need more time to complete the Faction style list building rules :)) And to make that work I need some sort of armybuilder ;)

I hadn't read the new rules manual, had to go look up the dismount rules. They are really turning on anyone and everyone who has ever modified their models.

I don't remember when the final book is supposed to come out. Kind of hard to run any tournament on an edition that is missing so many models. I imagine many people only have a few armies.

For army building it's easier to implement separate lists for times.
For example take Rohan, there's Eorl's rohan, Helm's Rohan and Theodén's Rohan. While for writing in a book it would be easier to just have a single list and write that those heroes can't be taken at the same time, for any pc solution, be it army builder or app, it's actually quicker to just have 3 copies of the rough Rohan, each with their own heroes.

They have not given us any timeframe for when the last book is to be released - rumour says anywhere between 3-6 monts - but it is really just guessing.

I have been playing around with your spreadsheet (although Im not your lvl, Im no novice either ;) ) I’ve colourcoded the list - like you did for units that could only be taken by certain heros - like Mahur and Marauders. But creating separate lists like you suggest is smarter.

Still you need to limit allying somewhat or the system would be to open to powergaming.
