Hi,

I’m just getting into SBG and have a lot of plastic Rohan lying around.

Re Royal Guard I was thinking of; painting a select few as Royal Guard, same colour scheme as Theoden, same normal shield design ie. the RG would be the only ones with that version (although I could also cast the RG design with green stuff), or I could just pull the trigger and spend £60 with GW (probably the same on eBay - they don’t seem to be below retail) or slightly less if a shop discounts.

I’m not a competition gamer so my opponents are unlikely to complain provided they are clearly identifiable and some won’t even notice.

What have others done? By the way the £60’s still going on SBG because those Isengard, Rivendell and Mordor forces aren’t going to build themselves :-D

Thanks for looking

You are on the right track using a different color scheme and using the same shield design to designate your royal guard. If you are comfortable doing so, you could also swap heads so they have the same helmet. Or you could use green stuff to shape a distinctive helmet with the horsehair off the back.

Another simple addition would be to make the horses armor on their face gold vs silver or even add a simple raised design on the face using greenstuff and paint it to contrast the rest of the armor.

I agree with Mapper. Simple modifications to designate elite troops works well for friendly games.

Thanks Mapper and Grumpy Gnome. I’m going to take the shield and paint scheme route.
