ye, their fight value is only 2, but for objective games like sieze the prize they
could be very effective, used in the right way, and with their special rule they
could easily run of the board edge with no probs !
they are also very low in points makeing them a great horde of shadowey
figures

Goblins are good because they boast the cheapest (except ruffians) troops in the game that are still decent[ish] in fights. But they are bad as they have no proper uber-heroes.

the problem is that in a 100-500 point army you can only have 45 men

so u cant have too many goblins

No, but that just let's you field some lots of captains (a few might-slaves) and lots of cave trolls and some prowlers.

pros:
cheap, so you can AWAYS get tons of them, this also means that the captians are cheap, so you can always get lots of might

cheap trolls, can get a troll even in 250pts games while they still have 40+ models

drums, a huge banner and ups your courage while lowering the enemies... courage thing covers the whole battlefield

(a special mention the the Balrog, which i would count as their uber hero/ prowlers which are amazing and shamans which are also amazing (especially for goblins when combined with durburz))

cons:
low courage (although i rarely find this a problem as they have plenty of ways to negate this)

slow, warriors move 5'' or 12cm.... one of the few things that i have a problem with, but i make up for it by allying in wargs/ spider/ bats/ warg riders

weak heros, although trolls make up for this

low fight, but they have so many numbers that they can usually win cause they have more ppl in a fight and lots of ppl to make up for losses

low defence, this is the one thing that they REALLY have trouble with (moria can ally with barad-dur for morranons and black guard uruks)
(dwellers below can ally with the black gate/barad-dur for the same things, it can also ally with minas morgul for black numenorians)
cause only the troll/capt have d6.. otherwise just about everything has d5 or d4

spiders are amazing (apart from their def and cost) str 5/ 2 attacks/ 2 wounds (and the spider queen is so over powered) combine them with druzarg the beastcaller and even Aragon will fall to them

thx, i love the goblins. even though they suck as a single troop, they are really strong cause of all the buffs they can get:

imagine a long battle line of goblins with a captain, shaman and drum behind it, with all that they all get +1 courage (but is not needed cause they are fearless from fury) and get the 6+ save, and have the ability to swarm another battle line cause the goblins one would be so long, and have might for heroic actions, and all get the banner bonus (effectively 3 attack to win a fight) and everyone else is at -1 courage (and this is without prowlers, trolls,,bats or allies thrown into the mix)

above all that i just love them, as soon as i saw them i knew that i would have to get some (i just like the look of them and cause its fun fielding mass trolls)

with bats a swarm around cavalry could work seeing you have numbers

actully i have beaten a cavalry charge with my goblins, they charged me, but becausei had so many goblins (and a second line of goblin spearmen to take the place of the shieldmen) they simply got overwhelmed, even with 2 attacks on the charge, i get 3 goblins for that 1 cavalry model... so i could still kill them :), although they did still hurt...

I've gotta write up today's battle report, but it was a goblin victory, 600 points so with 75 units to play with it was just swarm, swarm then swarm some more for good measure =)

Let the cave troll etc. take on heroes and just plain overwhelm everyone else.

You've just gotta be thick skinned enough to accept that some turns are going to involve lots of deaths, but in perspective, as a percentage of your total force, it's not so bad. You can't get too discouraged!

Plus, they're nasty little brutes, so even when they're *my* nasty little brutes, I don't feel so bad when they die. =)
