Hey all, I passed up a Scouring of the Shire set today. It was still at its original retail price. I never really had the compulsion to get it while it was available because I never really loved the Hobbit sculpts. I like the Sharkey mini though, but it really isn't worth it. How rare is the set these days and how long has it been out of print? I was thinking of maybe parting out the other bits after I have a closer look at the minis in hand.

It's not incredibly rare. I see it sell fairly regularly in the $50-75 range. If you only wanted to keep Sharkey & Worm, the hobbits on ponies would be pretty easy to move individually or as a group, I would think.

If you happen to pick it up, I'll happily buy the Merry on Pony from you to help start the piece-mealing!

Sharkey is the only model easily available outside of the set (used to be in the Battle Games in Middle-earth series), the others are pretty sought after. You really shouldn't have any problems finding some interested people, and definitely won't make a loss out of it.

IDK how much 'retail' is but Im sure on ebay if you sold the four hobbits, you can get get like $12 bucks for them each on average. Then keep sharkey and worm.

Or hell you can buy it and keep them, and the four hobbits are good trade bait.

If I were you, I would have bought 3 if there was that many. If anything, let me convince you with a recent purchase history on ebay of said box set:

Look at what even the primed set goes for......50......
