So these bad boys turned up today :D :D Upon first glances they are both stunning models and will go straight into their respective armies.

Dwalin

Cast wise as good as they get, a bit of flash to clean up but nothing major to complain about here. The two axes do appear to be quite flimsy so be careful when cleaning and painting.
9/10

Azog (the big one)

Now the pale orc comes on 4 sprues which will be detailed below.
First up the foot model
Image
Everything for the foot model comes on one sprue. Both the arms are separate and as with dwalin, Azog's mace looks prone to warping and snapping. Detail is very good and no miscasts.

Next is the mounted model.

The white warg comes in 2 halves with no missing legs (finally :D ). Both of azog's legs and the end of his claw are sculpted onto the warg. Not quite sure why the decided to sculpt the claw there but at least it won't snap off.
Image
Azogs torso is the final sprue and is pretty much the same as everything said before. Detail good, cast good, weapon fragile.

Finally, as suspected, the white warg was on a larger base than its minions. However, it is not a 60mm troll base. It is instead a 50mm. Intrestingly, the copyright mark underneath is 2012 which could imply that possibly he has been ready for ages or I may just be reading too much into it.

So hopefully the above has persauded you to go into your local GWs tomorrow and buy both models. If anyone wants any further pics etc then shout and keep an eye on my WIP. These fellas have jumped straight to the front of the queue.

Wait a minute - in the photo of Azog The Defiler (mounted), the left arm appears to be missing the prongs. Am I correct?

yup you are. It's not a miscast, it's supposed to be like that. The prongs (claw) are moulded onto the mane of the white warg.

Okay - looking at the painted version it becomes clear. But getting the foot version's prongs off the sprue unbroken is going to be a challenge.

Wait so do you have to use a normal warg as le white warg if he dismounts?

Either that or keep the mounted model on the field and ignore the rather large orc on its back.

That was my disappointment back when the preview pics first became available

How did you get them early?

that would be telling. what i can say though is have patience with azog's warg. taking ages to glue together. The two halves seem to repel each other  tempted to let them glue with a slight gap and fill it with GS.

So the £25 for 2 minis has a quality control issue?

I could understand if people had problems. It may be my glue, it is getting to the end of its life but I've been sitting at my desk holding the warg for 15 minutes. Glued alright now though.
Dwalin went together like a charm, no problems with him and he looks AWESOME with my converted grimhammers.

and for those interested. A height comparison between father and son.

Image

Azog (feet to head) is 35mm tall
Bolg (feet to head) is 37mm tall.

Dunno why but I expected Azog to be taller.

Edit: Just dug out original Azog (yazneg). The proper white warg is much larger than yaznegs. Foot models are the same height.

The current White Dwarf Daily at the bottom says
"Azog is a fearsome sight. He's also huge, easily rivalling the mighty Bolg for size and completely dwarfing the Dwarves of Thorin's Company."

But, he looks kind of small next to Bolg, or at least not very rivaling (oops I spelled that correctly unlike the WDD).

Thanks for the review. Waiting on my preorder, probably another two weeks like most of my pre-orders, long after every store and person I know has one in hand they will get me my order.
