So, I have still a few High elves waiting for painting and I want to (at least try to) paint them in the fantastic colour scheme of the Hobbit: AUJ.

Do you have any tips or guides for that maybe? I have the Hobbit Chronicles: Art & Design book but there is only one concept of them.. Also I dont mean what GW made of that scheme, since it seems to be just silver and grey/black/blue.. in the film the tones were much warmer and included a bit of purple and red if i remember correctly.

After looking at GWs high elven riders, I have to agree that the films tones were much better. 8)
If I was to get a pack myself, I personally would paint them like the Elrond from the movie in his deep red and silver armour.:)
I couldn't get how nice that armour looked since I saw the film. :yay:

The "default" and rather successful scheme goes something like this:

50-50 Goblin Green/Gold.
Increase the gold highlights with mithril silver
Final highlight mithil silver.

Garments:

1-1-1 mix of Codex Grey, Black and Royal Blue
Increase highlights with Fortress Grey.

Sashes are grey with grey/white highlights.

The cloaks are a mix of, I think, chainmail and dark angels green.

Thanks aelfwine, but that's exactly the scheme I did not look for ;)

I want the silver/blue/purple/red design from the hobbit film, not the one from FOTR prologue :)

Maybe this one helps the one or other too, who is looking for the original film design:

Trying to figure it out myself, picked up a handful of new paints from gw today, my conclusion so far, Is that to get it close I'm going to have to use a wet pallet for the entire army. Straight out of the pot isn't looking hopeful. I'm not even going to attempt to mimic the backs of the cloaks movie accurate. The design is feathers or something to that effect different shades of silvers etc.
Thankfully the movie comes out on dvd next month and I can use it for reference

If I was to attempt that paint scheme, I would do the following:

Mix up Tin Bitz and Burnished Gold, half and half, and paint the armour.

Paint or wash Chainmail silver onto the armour, leaving the very edges still with the tin/burnished mix.

Then give the whole thing a 50:50 Black / Brown ink wash.

I had a quick attempt at this:

I can't tell exaclty how the cloaks should be and have gone with a purplish colour. The blue and red I'm not completely happy with but I think they'd look better when fully highlighted and shaded.

There was a fair bit of mixing involved so I'd need some more work to figure out precise colour recipes. Plus I use various paint ranges and would have to convert them to gw for the sake of consistency. Let me know what you think.

Quite nice so far Minimal! Maybe I'd go for a darker blue though (mix some black into it) and use the tone that you have now for highlights. I think the cloaks were almost black iirc? The feather design RotN mentioned was on ELronds cloak I think. But I'm not sure... god.. time for the DVD! :D

I've added updated photos to my wip topic. I used a couple of black washes to the robes and cloak and I think it looks a lot better now.
