I just picked up the Scouring of the Shire box, and I'm a little confused by the metal bases that the horses are on. I'm assuming if I leave them on it will make them look like they are standing on a slight elevation after the base is finished. Do I cut these off before attaching them to the plastic base, or will this make them wobbly? I'm assuming if I leave them on it will make them look like they are standing on a slight elevation after the base is finished.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Leave the metal stands on and just glue them to the bases. If you are concerned about the stand showing up you can either put 2 layers of sand on, or a bit of filler to smooth the whole thing out. If you are in the UK, poundland usually have tubs of ready mixed filler. I've had mine for ages and it hasn't dried up.
Good luck!

Hi,
As stated above, I left the metal base on for stability and built-up the base texture around it, starting with course rubble nearer the metal base then finer texture out towards the plastic base edge.
I have a Sam on Pony in my gallery which shows the effect, it's an old picture but I hope gives the gist.
(Don'y know how to upload images directly here, I'm a bit old and senile)
