Hey all,

I'm building a few Mordor Trolls at the moment, but can't decide what pose to put them in.
I've just opened the first one, and want it to be heavily armoured; and by that I mean more heavily armour than regular 'armoured' Mordor Trolls. So to that end, I've been experimenting with giving him the shield that's usually reserved for Isengard Trolls.

I'm aware that Mordor Trolls don't have the option to take shields, but that's not really a concern of mine. My biggest worry is that it'll evoke an Isengard look.

So what do you guys think? Here's my current favoured pose. I originally had him holding the shield in front of him, but it looked a little too defensive so I opted for this nastier look.

Should I slice up the shield to change it? Turf it out completely? Advice and suggestions are appreciated.

Oh by the way, all that goes for his helmet too!
Also, I'm aware that he's got armour on top of armour on his right arm, but again I'm not particularly worried by that. Apologies for the horrible photos too :)

If you are good with green stuff sculpting you could leave the shield and make some spikes here and there.. ie shoulder pads spikes, gauntlets etc)
Also you could add some "victims" on his base and some blood on him here and there.

you want to achieve is something like this?

thats the first image that came to my mind when i read that you wanted an armored mordor troll.

hope this helps a bit

I know what you mean. For my Dol Guldur army I wanted my Trolls to stand out from the typical Mordor style as well and look like they were toughened up a bit to fight the Elves of Mirkwood and Lothlorien, obviously far superior foes than the Men of Gondor. This is what I came up with.

I have two more metal Trolls that I’m doing about the same with (not counting the weapon swap as you can’t order those bitz any more) but they are still in parts. When I am comfortable enough that the FCast Troll Chief quality is up I’ll be picking one of them up and will come up with something similarly themed. In the mean time I often play this guy as a Chief.

If you do go with a shield (again, making sure your opponents know it's for show only and doesn't have any in-game effect) some of the thoughts earlier will help it look less "Isengard". Getting rid of the big spikes is a major factor in that. And a prominent Lidless Eye would help break it free from the image as well.

Changing the rest of the troll (especially the helmet) from the Isengard style will help as well. Maybe use the other head (the one with the spikes-helmet) or cut off the fan.

I had thought about losing the helmet, but I really like that too :P

I realise I'm trying to have my cake and eat it too, but hopefully a good paint job (with the recommended Eye) will go a long way to make it blend with the rest of my trolls.

If anyone's interested by the time I finish it, I'll post some pics of the completed model :)
