I have completed my 2 Great Beast of Gorgoroth and the twins have been in battle twice, but I am still unsure if I should glue the crew on permanently or continue to use blue tack for easy casualty removal. The blue tack color stands out too much and detracts from the figures. Any recommendations anyone? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Maybe you could try drilling a hole into the orc's feet & where you'll place them on the beast, then add a small rod to the orc. Similar to the Riders of Rohan? Just a thought :\

magnetize them to the beast would be cool but a fair amount of work and drilling etc .. failing that the rules say something like to simply add a sorta special wound token to represent the dead orcs. pretty jealous of your 2 beasts ! :D

That is exactly what I did and it works just fine. 8)
I'll try to take some pictures later to show you.

I've pinned mine, like Knightyknight suggests. I only pinned one foot of each orc as the howdah is so crowded they hold themselves in place to a certain extent. I used short pins for the ones standing on thw wooden platform, andreally long pins for ones standing on the beast itself.

Thanks for this idea as well. I will keep my eyes out for very tiny magnets. The twins are fun to play, but they are not very good though.

Pictures will be greatly appreciated! I am concern about the size of the hole(s) created by drilling(s).

Well of course you have to use a very small drill bit. I think mine is 0.7mm diameter.

The pike will also have to be replaced with a metal rod. I have heated and straightened it 3 times already but the finebend droops over time. The foot rods do protrude ever so slightly through the bottom of the howdah, but as this isn't visible to the eye during gaming I am not overly concerned about it.

Thank you very much UKfreddybear for the pictures!!! I will look for the appropriate tools to do the job. Also, I like your pike exchange idea as well. Thanks again.

You're welcome. You will need a pin vice (small hand drill) and a set of micro drill bits, some wire e.g. small paperclips and superglue to fix the pins in. A pair of wirecutters/pliers/clippers are also handy to cut the wire to the desired length. 8)

Cheers. It now joins the ranks of my 3000+ lotr miniature painting backlog. I really don't like painting :-X

Thank you again UKfreddybear for the shopping list. I will pick up a pin vice and micro drill bits on my next trip to the local hobby store.

That is the best cast of the beast I have seen. Were you able to fix it or did you get a good one. My replacement beast was worse than the first defective cast.
Good job!

Also the two I returned to them they claimed not to have received which seems odd.

I had a similar issue with tracking problems. They did not have a record of my complaint but the operator clearly remembered my call. He also bent over backwards to try to solve a problem that he clearly was not in control of. There are a lot of good people in GW customer service but they did not have a mechanism in place that was capable of successfully dealing with finecast. Management made the decision to send out a product they knew was defective. When customer service was overwhelmed with complaints management changed the policy. Customer service clearly did not have a system to track the volume of returns. It was a mistake for your customer service agent to tell you they did not receive your return. It puts the blame on you.It also implies you are dishonest. Grounds for termination as far as I am concerned. Some one sane made the right decision to cut you a check.
Sorry to go off topic.
Fine cast will always be a problem. I would suggest replacing all of the weapons with metal weapons. There are some very small magnets available if you prefer magnets or magnetic tape to pins.

I don't think it was any better than others I've seen. The beasts right side is a lot shorter than its left half, but you get around this by heating both halves then flexing both sides around to the right. the belly and back was shaved away until it became close enough to disguise with putty.
