Greetings, all.

I was wondering if anyone here has picked up one of the FineCost versions of the Troll Chief yet and if so what is your impression? I have read several horror stories here and elsewhere of some of the quality issues with the FC molds but have also read a few very positive things as well (I tend to skew the ratio as happy people rarely post how happy they are but unhappy people are often vocal).

I’m looking to make a purchase soon anyway and am strongly considering this one. I’m burned out on spending nearly the same amount of money on a simple foot/mounted Hero and I have more common troops in my backlog than I can deal with for a long time anyway. I’m looking to get something new. I was thinking a Dragon at first but still on the fence about GW’s version. The Winged Nazgul aren’t something I want to get into until I can afford a few at once (love the models and story lines, but too fragile singly in WotR). I’ve proxied the Troll Chief in a couple WotR games with great results and could really use one to lead my Dol Guldur War Trolls. And I’m looking forward to doing some conversion work on a big model that is NOT metal for a change.

I'm not trying to start another FC flame war. I just hate the thought of investing in the model only to get one that’s really not on par with its old metal counterpart (which I have seen many times and love). I haven’t talked to anyone yet that’s seen one of these big guys in FC resin first hand and so I am turning to the community at large.

I got one on the day of release and he was perfect :)

Basically some of the earlier stuff had problems, but since then a lot of the molds have been re-cut, and they're also using a type of mold release meaning there are less airbubbles.

If anything is good about the FC, it's the weight ;)

I actually LIKE the weight of metal models, but for all the other benefits I'm not going to complain.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'll probably see when my LGS can get one in if I don't hear anything critical about the quality of recent ones before then.
