Post subject:  some of my gondor minis

Here are a few of my gondor minis. Some are not completely finished eg. bases, minor touch up and such. Please tell me what you think since these are my first lotr minis and im still rather new at painting. And btw I purposefully have the shields with the silver dusty look around the tree. I think it looks good like that.My own personal taste.

So these are pretty good but IMHO i think you need to add more highlights to the blue cloak and to the white crest on the front. I am not currently painting but I would think maybe start with a light grey as a base and drybrush with a progressively lighter mix of grey and white, with the last coat being white. Perhaps some other members who are much better than I can comment on that.

Also I think that the armor needs another highlight. THough I do really like what you have done with the shields, the silver dusty look is what I always imagined them looking like.

As I said I am currently not painting and haven't in a few years, but that what I think. Hope this helps.

:yay:

I like the shields too, they look sweet.

Very good effort, your mounted Imrahil is very tidy.

The next step you should start to think about is depth and highlights. depth is easily achieved with washes, there are plenty of articles on how to achieve this look.

IMHO I don't like the silver 'dusty' look on the shields, it makes them look like you can't be bothered cleaning them up after dry brushing them.

I actually like the shields - but I think the skin on all your models could use a wash of "Devlan Mud" or any other equivalent (and it's really not that hard to do). My thoughts also mirror the ones above in regards to highlights and shades - right now the cloth on Imrahil and his steed are flatly painted in one color, they would look much better if you mixed (or bought) a darker shade of blue and painted the deeper folds and used a brighter blue on the highest foldes.
Good for someone starting out though :)

Nice job for a beginner! 8)

I would also suggest getting into washes, they can be really helpful, especially on faces. You could just water down some Bestial Brown and apply it onto the face.

Ok I see what you all are saying on the washes. I just got a few of the GW ones the other day. Would the asurman blue wash work good on Imrahil cloth?Would that give it a good darker shade? And again thanks for the replies guys

As mentioned above, a few washes and a little highlighting will work wonders - a good first attempt none-the-less.
