Hello mehearties, I was just pondering to myself while I was waiting for a delivery to turn up. I was trying to think of all the hobbies I'm in and out of and trying to see if there was a pattern, and wondering if anyone else is like me. It seems that through the year I usually end up doing periods of miniature painting, sea fishing (usually summer,) building/flying RC planes, airsoft and building the odd plastic kit. It strikes me that I have too many hobbies, and it's hard to fit them all in! The good side is that when I retire (in approximately 42 years) I'll have lots to do. But in the mean time it can be hard to stick at one thing long enough to really get the best out of it. I can't help but feel a bit like Mr Toad from the Wind in the Willows, but at least I go back to the same hobbies instead of constant new ones. Does anyone else have other hobbies, or too many others? What do you do ? Will. |

I know what you mean by when you say you have periods of a certain thing. I can sometimes be really into my painting for a few months, painting away like a crazy man. I'm mostly into my scenery/terrain making all year round, or overall just dreaming about it. I've had various different fly heli things, but they were never really up to the job. Always wanted to control a RC plane thing, looks so fun. Though it might end out crashing & burning if i take the controls I'm just new to airsoft really.. I had a few pistols around before, but that was it. Recently bought myself a new rifle.. need to buy heavier bb's, otherwise the wind carries them away. I'm not quite looking to what I'll be doing when i retire yet, long way to go for that Though I take I'll get a smaller pension & all that with the government. I must say I love my PC gaming (hat consoles) & I'm into my high graphic games etc... |

I got drawing, miniatures, jiu-jutsi normally i went to academy at saturdays to for drawing but i had to give that up for school. This might not be many hobby's but sure thing that you can call them time absorbing! I barely watch tele - maybe few times a year now? |

Me too, which is probably a good thing. Though I do end up procrastinating on the interwerbs, the Cheezburger network can swallow half an hour without you even noticing. Iain, there are tons of really cheap planes out there now ready to fly. They're made of tough foam so don't break all that easily. Once you've learned to fly on those, then you can risk flying your beautiful balsawood creation. I really wan't to build the Boulton Paul Defiant from here. Though Gandlaf the Grey has got me toying with the idea of trying home brewing too. TOO. MANY. HOBBIES. Will. |

right, with me it's tennis, miniatures (Lotr only though), collecting and watching dvds, playing video games, and I used to have trading card hobbies and miniature trains as well, and lego, but I seem to have kicked off now. |

I actually tried sea fishing about 2-3 weeks ago now, I really enjoyed it! I caught 9 fish in an hour or so, so I was rather pleased for a first timer. I enjoyed fishing in general, but in lakes. I still never caught anything from a lake I might try out that rc plane thing, cheers Eorl. Anyone into rugby? |

Wow not bad at all! I've never caught that many in an hour (other than when I've been fishing for Mackarel.) I wouldn't say I'm into Rugby but I enjoy watching the big events with my family, I used to play it in school. In terms of minis at the moment I only collect LoTR and some of Langton Miniatures Napoeonic men o' war. Will. |

Well done for throwing them back (never take more than you can use), but in the case of these poor macks many of them probably died . They have very sensitive specialised skin and if you touch them it does something to them and a few hours later they can die. Unfortunately not alot of people know this, so lots of macks die this way. I didn't know for a while until I started going to the world sea fishing forums. They don't always die and this is a hot topic of debate among anglers, but I play it safe just in case. So unless you are going to take them, don't fish for them, that we we have lots of macks for next season . But well done for the sustainable attitude . |

Well my kind of topic Besides wasting my time on university and law consselling service assosciated with those studies, I have a bunch of other time wasters Some are typical like videogames, movies or tv-series (I have 3-4 that I'm regular with ), there are also others. Like hockey for example it does only take my time between November and May but still, 4 practices a week can be exhausting There's also ballroom dancing in univerisy formation Kinda fun, helps to keep in shape, trains your dexterity and movement, plus it works on the ladies So that 2 times a week (so half the academic year I'm off from one practice to another) Well miniatures of cours, otherwise I wouldn't be here That's total time waster, who among us can easily count those hours spent on painting Ah, guitars..takes time as well. Even couple of hours in a day, plus band rehersals Though we play just for fun, so thank God there are no gigs Plus of course everyone enjoy occasional trip downstairs to the bar |

Well besides LOTR miniatures, I steal cars and money and other bloody things, I paint WWII aircraft, I fence, I play airsoft and I camp and hike(which is VERY expenseve). So what I do is kinda put some of my hobbies on "Hold" and work on something else for a little while. |

I have the same problem, there is so much im interested in. I gym, enjoy walking and nature spotting. My girlfriend and I enjoy playing LOTR but we rarely find the time. I play xbox with friends some evenings. As far as the hobbie craft goes, I paint minis, make terrain, sculpt non lotr things and paint and draw as well. The problem is I'm not very good at any of it as I only have about 6-10hours a week to put towards crafts. I should pick one and stick to it for a few months to improve but I've got too many things going at once. It baffles me how such a large %age of the population dont have any hobbies at all. They work, watch TV and go drinking. |
