This blog (highly recommended by the way) has asked a good question - when will Warner Brothers announce the release of the extended dvd of BoTFA? Trying to reconcile the R rating? Peter Jackson/WETA/Howard Shore still working on it? Warner Brothers not liking what Peter Jackson is saying in the Director's comments? The rumor is that they're not releasing it on dvd until a special short extended edition theatrical release. Perhaps that is why. |

"Short extended" I think I just found my design project-timeline blowout catch phrase. Looking forward to this full version though - perhaps actually see where the heck the battle goats came from for one thing? |

I believe he was referring to a 'short' release of the 'extended' edition in cinemas (which several people involved have mentioned, Richard Armitage among them), rather than the release of a cut that is longer than the original theatrical release, but shorter than a proper EE. I think I saw the other day that the EE has around 20 minutes of extra footage. |
