So, the 'Anti' Chris Tolkien folks...would you rather Tolkien's unfinished works just never surfaced?
Or would you want to read them and know about them ?
I would rather all these 'leftover scraps' be compiled into one non-Middle-earth-related "unpublished epics" volume to save on bulk and price. The Children of Hurin was fantastic and I'm glad it saw the light of day in the form it did. But I don't understand why Sigurd and Gudrun, Fall of Arthur, and presumably Beowulf could not have been compiled into one book. Drop the excessive commentary and lower the bill for the consumers Christopher is trying to share with.
That's why it strikes me as gouging (though I again apologize for accusing Christopher of anything). Fall of Arthur seems like a work that would be made free to Tolkien fans through pdf, there's so little content--not one sold at a massive price. Perhaps Christopher is eager to publish as much as he can before
he dies, and maybe publishers are taking advantage.
There I go being a cynic again...sorry
