Wow you get it late over there lol. I've had mine for weeks. And I don't think there will be an "extended edition". With the original trilogy it was three seperate books that they were condensing into a single movie each, and to accommodate the release of the extended version they spaced the movies two years apart. I haven't seen anything "official" that's just my hypothesis.

There's definitely an extended edition of The Hobbit, Warner Bros listed it in a releases calendar for Q4 2013 (before withdrawing the statement) and Peter Jackson has since confirmed an EE with 20-25 minutes of extra footage. Also, the original trilogy weren't spaced two years apart, they were 2001, 2002 and 2003 (with EEs in Nov 2002, Nov 2003 and Dec 2004).

Im going to get the blu-ray 3d version next week but ive been pretty much watching my alternate copy everyday anyway. The extended editions are a must though, I'm always suckered for them on a day of release. Is there not a teaser trailer on the dvd?

Got it on DVD as I am not bothering with the Blue Ray system. Once again the Region system screws the UK over. 1) We get it released later than Region 1 and 2) We dont even get a two disc special edition like Region 1, infact we get f' all on it.

The region system has to go.

Great minds think alike. I have cracked and am going to buy the non special addition, which I am only doing so that I can watch it with my Girlfriend, but I will be going for Blu Ray which has a touch more longevity for the special edition!

Just watched the bluray, I don't know why but it was better this time around than at the cinema, really enjoyed it.

I just watched the blu-ray. It was fantastic. I had a really bad week at work but right now, I have a grin a mile wide on my face. I am so contented. (Seriously, not joking!)

Fully agree, could have written that myself, question, is it better because it isn't in 3D?
