I recently returned to the hobby after 15-ish years. Many of my old things were lost in a burglery.

I wonder, can you still get the measuring sticks? I cannot find them on the GW website (?). I tried tape (not GW's though) but it felt really clumsy and awkward compared to just using a slim stick that easily fits between models. Are measuring sticks still around or are they a piece of lost and forgotten technology?

I guess I could make sticks myself, but I work 10 hours a day and have four armies that I want to paint. A measuring stick is kind of not a wheel that I would want to spend time on inventing myself.

Hello Alhvar,

I'm using measuring sticks in combination with a measuring tape. In my first tournament my first opponent used selfmade sticks, and afterwards I copied his idea and made my own.

Some days ago I made a set for my grandson (sticks of 3", 4", 5", 6", 10" and 12" length), and it was done in about 30 minutes. I sawed off pieces from a wooden strut and then sanded the ends.

But in the videos from "Spillforeningen the Fellowship", these are some Norwegian tabletoppers playing all narrative SBG Scenarios on YouTube, they used a measuring instrument made of plastic, which was commercially produced by the look of it. But the tool could be used only for smaller distances, maybe up to 6".

Hope this helps!

My old gaming club used to use pipe cleaners marked with the increments. They were great, because they could reach around trees and buildings. Occasionally you can find the old blue measuring sticks on ebay. Another option is to contact Warbases out of the UK. Look at their measuring sticks to use as a template and ask them to make you a custom set. They often do custom orders for customers and are great to deal with.

So sad about your stuff being stolen. Miniatures are one thing I thought would be safe, I never thought someone would see value in them.

I found some red measuring sticks on ebay and bought them. It will be great to have the tools that I was once used to. I am however puzzled that GW does not sell them anymore. Were there also blue measuring sticks?

Yeah, the old Mines of Moria starter set included two blue measuring sticks. :)

I don’t remember GW ever selling the measuring sticks, they usually came in the starter sets I think.
