So I managed to convince amy to play Battle Companies I thought it'd be a better way to learn the rules than just normal big battles. We've both painted our starting company, I chose Erebor (just so I have an excuse to buy some Grim Hammers soon..) and Amy chose Thranduils Halls. Amy's warband; The Mirkwood All-Stars Any my warband; Blain's Buddies: First game in next post! |

(I'll try to remember the names and what happened as I go along) So first game we played Contest of Champions. Our board is a little smaller (About 38x33) so we were a little too close set up wise. We both picked our leaders as our champions. I set up first, and forgot Amy's elves had cloaks.. so my rangers were useless for first few turns! End of Turn One. I advanced in a slow stompy dwarfy way. Whilst one of my Rangers (Frar) was shot and wounded by an Elf (Elrahir). End of Turn Two. The dwarfs continue their advance, the elf shooting not able to damage the harder dwarves. End of Turn Three The Dwarves close in, the Elves decide to scatter End of Turn Four The Dwarves win priority and manage to charge the Elves with my leader Blain wounding Luthien, End of Turn Five All that remains is the Elf Leader, Feanor, who manages to wound Vidar, End of Turn Six Fror the Ranger proves his worth and puts an arrow into the Elf Leader Feanor who quickly retreats the battle cursing revenge upon the Dwarves. After Battle Stuff So the Dwarves won the first game, gaining 4 gold, a few experience points and all injuries recovered. The Elves skulked away with 2 gold, some experience but they realised that one of their number was missing.... meaning the next game would be the Rescue Scenario! |

The Elves regrouped and backtracked to the previous battlefield to find the Dwarves interrogating one of the elven company. The objective was to have control over the objective (the elf) when one of the companies reached 25%. Set Up: End of Turn Two All the reinforcements moved on at the end of turn one, Nar managing to sneak up the flank a bit more than his brothers who had a long walk. End of Turn Three Elwing gets wounded from diving in front of an arrow meant for Faenor, Fror once again proving his accuracy with a bow. End of Turn Four Faenor takes vengeance and wound Nar who was sneaking through the ruins of the statues. End of Turn Five Elranhir manages to wound Fror, who crawls away to the safety of the wood. End of Turn six/seven The Dwarven company charges forward, realising that the elves will just sit and shoot them all day otherwise. They leave Vidar and Frar to look after the elven prisoner until a hail of harrows sees them duck and flee. End of Turn Eight The Elves see their chance to rescue their sister and advance forward while pouring shots into the Dwarves. End of Turn Nine The Dwarves courage now broken start to dash back and forth as the elves dance around them, unsure of where the arrows are coming from End of Turn Ten Vidar decided this was all too much and ran off the board, meaning the game would end this turn.. all the dwarves had to do was hold the objective. But Blain decided that enough blood had been spilt and decided to fail his courage check... and leave the objective, leaving the Elven leader to rescue his comrade. End of Battle Stuff The Elves managed to rescue their missing sister, with only Elwing missing the next game. Faenor managed to increase his shoot value to 2+, and Elranheir gained a pt of Might. For the Dwarves, Nar was wounded pretty bad and has to mix the next game and Fror now has an Old Battle Wound along with his baldness. Blain gained Furious charge (+1 attack on charge). |

Great reporting. I love battle companies, play that most often, getting three or more matches in a session of a couple hours is great fun. It is also cool that you backed off an allowed the other BC to get their companion back, those things are always encouraged in BC's since you want everyone to grow and become a better BC to face next time and keep your own guys from maybe taking a wound that is not necessary in a losing battle. again, great work. |

Awesome! I too love Battle Companies, although it might be a good idea to fight with a few "ringer" forces, so that you each gain XP independently of each other once in a while, and vary the games a bit. Great photography as well. I look forward to seeing more! |

Yeah, I agree with mertaal. You need to set up several other small BCs (but not necessarily level them or anything) as random opponents, otherwise it'll just be the same two BCs fighting each other over and over, and one side'll become way stronger than the other. |

Yeha we're planning to do that, I have some painted corsairs and other things around Also Blain didn't run off out of choice.. He actually failed his courage check on the turn that the game ended. I would have backed off anyway as I didn't want to kill 25% of Amy's warband game two! |

Are you rolling on the "Hero Wound Chart" for all your warriors rather than just the chosen leader? Normal warriors can't get an Old Battle Wound or a point of Might... and you don't play Rescue for warriors. |

Cannot wait to see the next adventure both the companies will have, maybe consider making some custom scenarios just for a bit of fun |
