Quote: We haven't squared off in a while but last week Andy dropped by to give me a game 1000 pt WOTR game. He had (the forces of Dol Guldur): Khamul the Easterling, (allied) Durbuurz, two coy Castellans of Dol Guldur, two formations of two coy Orc Stalkers, two formations of four coy Morranan Orcs, one formation of five coy Orcs with 2HW. I took (the Army of Gondor): Aragorn, Faramir, one formation of five coy Axemen of Lossarnach. one formation of four coy Warriors of Minas Tirith, one formation of four coy Warriors of Anfalas, one Formation of three Coy White Mountain Rangers, two formations of three and four coy Knights of Minas Tirith and one formation of four coy Archers of Gondor. Quote: As the sun dawned on the White mountain slopes, our lords Aragorn and Faramir gave a cry and urged us forward. Aragorn used all of the cunning of his Ranger heritage and stole the march on the enemy, sending the Archers heroically forward, into the abandoned farm and amidst the forces of Mordor. Faramir led his forces out of the woods to our left, ready to do battle with the Orcs crossing the hills toward us and all along the line banners dipped and horns sounded the advance. Dark omens abounded this day, but how did the Men of the west fare? Full report here: http://roughwotr.blogspot.com/2011/12/wotr-batrep-disaster-on-white-mountains.html |

Ouch. That didn't end very well. Its a pity Aragorn died as he did, he would have probably helped to maintain the center of the Gondor lines but even the mightiest heroes can be slain through the darkest of magics. At least a lesson was re-learned. "Just because you can doesn't mean you should." I've had to re-learn that lesson many times myself. Better luck, next time Xelee for avenged must be the fallen lords Aragorn and Faramir! |

Lol spoiler alert! Hopefully Aragorn was just wounded and his horse snuck him away from the the battlefield. |

Sorry for the VERY late reply Xelee but i've been very busy lately (so busy taht it didn;t even feel like xmas) . Anyway, nice report as usual, well written, but I have one qualm, although the qualm has nothing to do with you, it is with your oppanant. Since when was the Army of Dol Guldor composed of Morannon Orcs (the rest of his force is fine especially Khamul, Castellans, two hander orcs [Durburz and Stalkers ok too], its just his main body is silly, it's nearly as bad as a Haradrim Army which was in fact almost entirely composed of Easterlings) |

Lol 'baby-steps' Gmtw. At least he's not running the traditional Mordor force anymore and hopefully one day he'll wean himself off the Morranans entirely. |

Well part of the process was that the last time he took the 'Traditional Mordor Army' vs me he came second. So I think things are working well in terms of Carrot and Stick |

Just goes to show that WotR magic is overpowered. No way could a mere Nazgul take out Aragorn. Anyway, why do you call it a "coy"? I know it stands for company, but why coy? |

All good wargames need the chance for things to go terribly wrong. That just occurs in real battles - in this case, Andy's spell was the second cast, so he had to pass focus (which he failed by one and had to spend the single might), then had to roll a 6 for that level of effect (he'd already spent his might), then get through my Will of Iron. So he spent might and it was very unlikely to work once you add up those three fractional chances. He just bet might on the longshot and it paid off this time - big time, since I had no reserve to fill the gap and my other hero was then stuck alone on the flank. 'Coy' is just an abbreviation, wargames shorthand like 'plt' for platoon etc Cheers |
