Please help me strip.....ooh la la

Ok, so I need to strip some metal figures.

I dont know much. I know I can look up videos but I want experience from actual LOTR players and their techniques/ideas.

I thought simple green was good to use, but if not, tell me what else.

Also, how long should I soak them, and whats the best way to brush the models?

Any insight whatsoever will greatly help! Thank you everyone. If it helps, I am in the USA so I can obviously only get products from here lol. Im trying to get this done asap. Thanks again, guys!

For metals, nail polish remover. It's cheap and strips paint off pretty quickly!

DONT use it on plastic, for that use the Simple Green. Just leave in soak for a day or so.

How long should I leave it in and should I use an old tooth brush or something?

I believe I tried Nail Polish remover once before and it barely stripped and turned Gandalf the White to Gandalf the yellow....

You will find a lot more information quicker than I can type it if you search these forums for any one of the following: Simple green, Dettol, paint, strip.
I believe with the nail polish you want "acetone free" stuff.

Generally, leaving it overnight is best practice.
I would recommend Dettol, but I dont think its in the US. Next suggestion would be simple green, then fairy power spray.
Get an old toothbrush - its the best size for lotr models.

Ok will do. Thank you though. Thats all I really needed was a baseline idea then from there on I can search some stuff. I just dont trust all the stuff online of course. Wanted to hear it from people Ive seen around on here.

I've started using an ultra sonic cleaner when stripping minis, its been working really great! I set the figures to soak overnight in simple green then place the minis in the cleaner with simple green, I let it run for a few cycles (it's a 3 min cycle) it knocks the remaining paint off the figures and I use a tooth brush to remove the rest of the paint. I've had some metal figures which I stripped with this method and them came out looking brand new!!!

Dude, just go under your sink or check the laundry room for what-ever cleaner/degreaser/solvent you got and take that old tooth brush and mix in some elbow grease + time = a clean(er) mini.
Detrol works 4 me, so has simply green. As for soak time, you can and should let a metal mini soak over night. For plastics,you need to watch them, depending on how strong of a solvent you are using, start w/ 1/2 hour , take it out , scrub, and reevaluate as needed.

For metals i always use pure aceton. (ONLY FOR METALS, never for plastics!!!!) and i have been more than happy with the results, atleast 98% of the paint is off.
And the trick is to brush the miniature (with toothbrush) inside the cup of aceton while it is still soaking, not outside, this way the paint remains unstable and goes off really easily.

Acetone is great for METALS only.

I use strictly Simple Green (buy simple green concentrate. I got mine from Home Depot) as it strips paint off plastic, metal, and resin.

Put the mini in a cup or bowl. Pour the undiluted simple green on the mini. After about 2 hours you will start to notice the paint is softening. At this point you can start using an old toothbrush to scrub off the paint. For best results, let the mini rest in simple green for 12-24 hours.

For minis with thick layers of paint, I will scrub it after 12+ hours then let it soak for another 12 + hours and scrub again. I will repeat this process until I am satisfied.

As mentioned above, I prefer simple green because it works on minis of all material: metal, plastic, and resin.

I have used Dettol (the brown stuff). It works for both plastics and metal and I managed to get an almost perfect strip first time . Leave in Dettol overnight. Brush of majority of the paint. Rinse and finish cleaning in fresh dettol then rinse in soapy water. The key is to ensure all the paint is off before the water stage as otherwise the Dettol, paint and water creates a sticky residue.

I cannot recommend this highly enough. It worked so well for me, particularly on plastics.

I found that nail polish remover with acetone needs a lot of work/scrubbing to get everything off.
Nail polish remover that is acetone free works wonders!

How I do it:
I always take 2 small boxes with remover in it.
I put the miniatures in the first box, and let it soak for a good 10 minutes.
Then I take old cloth/towel or wathever I don't need anymore and put the miniature on there, and scrub it with a toothbrush using some extra remover.
I scrub so the paint goes off the miniature and on the cloth.
That should take 95% of the paint off.

Because I want a very clean miniature I always repeat the process a second time with clean remover. Just put them in the second box, and do it all over. You just have to look that the remover in this box doesn't get too dirty. if it does, put it also in the first box and take some new remover for your second box.

This next step is not really necesarry, but it gives a very clean miniature, so it is woth it for me.

In the US, Pine-Sol is what you want, my frend. The ORIGINAL PineSol, no off brands or Lemon or Orange flavors. The real McCoy.

Use a jar with a lid and fully cover your METAL minis with straight PS. Let them soak for a day. The following day, remove the figures and attack it with a toothbrush. DO NOT WET THE FIGURE WITH WATER. Water reduces the stripping power of the PS. Put down newspapers and brush away from your body. Most (if not all) of the paint will come off.
If all of the paint doesnt come off throw it back in the jar and repeat as necessary. Pour in more PS

Finally, when there are no more specks of paint, then you can rinse with water.

I've been doing this for probably longer than you're alive (I'm 62) and I am telling you this is the way to go.

PS NEVER USE THIS ON PLASTICS. It will melt them.

Simple Green knocked the paint right off metal Mordor Uruk's.
Soaked for 4 hours, toothbrush, and wash with water.
I used a wooden toothpick in combination with toothbrush.
Gets into the nooks and sometimes easier to use than the toothbrush.

Please help me strip.....ooh la la
