A very decent article, even though the GW metal 'Ent' is far from being an Ent in the Middle-earth sense. Good illustration of the mini. I do take umbrage at the assertion that it is the leaves that distinguish one type of tree from another. The shape of trees within a particular species, for example, aspens, will be similar, but the bark will be distinctive. The pattern of branches, the cross section of the trunk - there are literally dozens of permutations for each factor. |

The model itself may not be the best ent sculpt but it's head and shoulders above those plastic horrors! (Actually it might be a bit shorter.) You did a good job on this model and your article was clear and easy to follow. I look forward to reading more articles from you. Kind regards, Nathan. |

Aye, point duly noted, I could have done with you by my side Chirs  The reason I didn't go into bark patterns was because the details on the Ent pieces are very well detailed and would be difficult to mask by painting bark over it. I guess with some greenstuff it would be possible to sculpt your own bark patterns into the original but I didn't feel up to the task at the time. I agree that the shape of the trunk varies with each tree family and can be completely different to one of its own kind. But I decided against modifying the Ent and focused more on the colour possibilities and foliage options.

Great addition to the library, I really like the way it turned out! I've got some ents ready to start on my workbench, but have no idea how to actually start it! This guide might really help me cutting the knot! (dunno if that saying makes sense in English though...)

Great article dude, although, possibly looking a little dated already. I was initially confused with the mention of the new Ent kit being considered a stinker, yet you make no mention at that point of the plastic kit. I get that this article may have been written a while ago, but you could have probably added even a couple of lines of text, noting that the 'new' kit was now the 'old' kit.

It is almost a scholarly article Jack! But that’s the way I like them: the more you learn about a certain model – apart from which colour where to apply – the more the model is going to ‘live’ in your imagination. As a non-painter, give me the theory. A good read!
