I think I'll be getting some hobbits then. :-D I need some militia and archers too. Better get those before the conversion to Finecast, though I wouldn't mind that much.

Thats cheaper than most individual heroes, £10 each including the Orc Shaman which used to cost £4-5 each too.

Kings of Men are nice display pieces, but not much use for gaming without heavy conversion. I managed to grab a metal blister over the weekend and am happy for it, but I won't be worried too much about not having all four poses. (Of course, I would buy the blister of the other two if I find it at the right price...)

Hey, I like those hobbits, I may have to buy some just for amusement. Might make a good scenario background. Though if they came out with a plastic hobbit set...and now that ponies are cavalry...I might have to start a hobbit army.

I think the max Hobbit army you can have is right at 600 pts (i figured it all out a few months ago, don't remember the exact number, may be higher with upgrades). It would definitely be a fun army to play, but very expensive considering they're all metal/FC.

ponies are cavalry... :?: I had not noticed that change:!: My major concern was that with no generic captain it would be difficult to field as an army. Or even as themed allies. I will have to look up the reference but the only Hobbit military expedition was a unit of archers. Can't do an all bow army and there is the allies bow unit.

Thinking I am going to get another set of these hobbits and use them for more Shire conversions. :)

Yep, page 5 of the new books. I think it's a good change, allows hobbit heroes a bit of a boost. Ponies are weak and have lower D so it's not much of an upgrade.

Just for fun, I did the math.
The largest army I can make out of the "Shire" list is 590pts (if it has no horns). You could technically add up to 20 hunting horns for 400 more points if you wanted to.
Add one horn per warband and you're looking at a 690pt list.

The largest army I can make that contains only Hobbits adds Bilbo and Brandobras Took (breaking theme but technically legal) for a grand total of 820pts.

The Shire list as presented is basically a "Scouring of the Shire" theme. The pre-war versions of the Hobbits can't lead troops, Bilbo isn't in it, Brandobras isn't in it. To really be a more generic Shire list you'd just need to houserule up a generic captain. The fighting against the white wolves (I can't remember it's proper name) isn't really possible using the Shire list. None of the Scouring characters would have been alive in the second age, and while you can ally in Gandalf there isn't anyone to lead the Hobbits. Hobbit armies are always going to be weird looking outside of scenarios, so perhaps it isn't avoidable but a generic Hobbit captain would help. The danger of a generic Hobbit captain for 20pts (for example) would be making truly obscene swarms possible.

Back on topic I'm just glad I already went to the trouble of acquiring and painting the Nine on horseback, it would cost a fortune now. This release doesn't bother me too much, they're all either characters I don't much want or already have in metal. It was the less recent round converting tons of rank and file troops to Finecast that bums me out. I regret not getting a bunch of metal High Elf spearmen and Gundabad Blackshields when they were available in metal.

I don't think swarms will be a danger, with the hobbits in $$$ Finecast.

I have been collecting Hobbits for 20 years. There are a lot figures available. A swarm would be fun. :D
You are correct I won't purchase any fine cast

Whoosh. Did LOTR hobby even exist 20 years ago?

And you're right, a hobbit swarm would be great fun. Even more so in WOTR (imagine 400 hobbits arrayed in battle formation :-D )

If some of the rare models like Lobelia and Haldir are coming back, what are the chances of the 4th Mahud popping up in a Mahud Warriors 4-clampack?

just deviating slightly from the topic, so does this mean ponies can charge without having to take a courage test first? and that hobbits get the usual cav bonuses?

I didn't know Haldir was rare. I always though he was pretty common/easy to get accept for the unarmored versions.
