The standing minis are 180mm from the tip of the bow to the bottom of the base on my screens... and even at the enlargement over the original size, they look fantastic. Wonderful work!

Thanks for all the comments guys :D

I got this one finished today:

So I think I'll leave the last 2 Mirkwood Rangers for a bit as I have the Arnorians for the Painting Challenge and then the Bag End diorama. Should get an update on Arnor next week end.

Not as good as the others but I'm happy enough, after all they are all just troop models :)

Still a very good job on him, the green on the cloak is particularly good.

Like the dark green with whisper's of lighter green, very effective camouflage. I just got my Mirkwood stuff (well first batch) so I have a peek interest in seeing people's schemes.

You have more colours in the light stripes than first meets the eye. This is a bit like the famous tigerstripe camouflage.
I cannot believe how fine some of thise lines are. Have you got a brush with 1 bristle on it?

Haha no I actually use a normal Citadel Fine Detail brush for those highlights but it has got gradually thinner. Pretty sure it has more than 1 bristle though lol.

I'm really looking forward to the Arnor lot and will of course be posting my progress on that here. It'll be good to get away from so much stark highlighting and do a bit of layering again :)

Excellent skin tones, truly excellent. Basically the whole miniature is great; but I think the base is below par to the standard set by the wonderful painting: it just seems too plain, and not verdant enough.

Hmm I know what you mean about the base but it does look much better in real life and the dry brushing on the sand is a lot more noticeable. Also it is just a troop model and I simply decided to base it like my other minis but I suppose some more grass and maybe a couple of small shrubs would be a nice touch.

Thanks for the feedback Constantine and I'll take that into consideration for next time :)

I'm planning some nice touches to the Arnor bases so they should be a bit more extravagant :)

Hi again everyone and thanks for the comments :)

So work has begun on my entry into this month's painting challenge with my "test model" almost completed. I should get on to the other 5 Warriors, Captain and Banner and hopefully get them done by Monday. They will be painted to represent the Arnor Royal Guard (hence the gold detailing) in the last days of the war against Angmar.

For the armour I decided to go with a method based around over brushing followed by a Brown Wash (tried to give it a slightly worn look) followed by a layered highlight as I felt the other methods suggested in the Painting Forum would simply take too long. However I'm sure they will prove invaluable when I come to some heavily armoured Heroes. I'm happy to say I'm really pleased with the outcome and all that remains to be done on this mini is the brown and leather areas.

I also tried 3 different colour schemes before settling on the blue which I absolutely love.

Hope you enjoy and C & C welcome! :)

The blue is striking and the armour works very well, it's going to be a nice looking warband.

The blue & white scheme looks awesome! The gold details look good as well. Can't wait to see a whole unit of these guys done up!

Looks great!
Like the colour scheme and the way it's executed.
The face looks good, too!

I'm doing a similar thing (colours) with my WoMT.

Another great mini. The colour scheme is great - hints of boldness but not OTT, so it catches the eye and draws you into the rest of the detail.
Oh, maybe catching The Eye was not part of the plan :)
Super closeups once again - they really demonstrate how neat your brushwork is. Fantastic work.

Great paint job on the armour, looks really cool and weathered. Although I love the green colour scheme that GW gave these the blue works very well.

Thanks for the comments guys.

OK so here are the first 3 done. Decided to base them normally due to time pressures and I'm about to start work on Bag End. Should still get Arnor done for the challenge though.

The backdrop is a terrain board I did a year or 2 ago.

C & C welcome! :)

These are looking the business, the colour scheme looks very dramatic and sets the figures off wonderfully well.
The terrain looks nice.

Thanks Gandlaf :)

So I got a rough plan of the front wall of Bag End drawn up. It measures 15cm x 7cm (to the top of the semi-circle). Unfortunately a headache has halted any further progress but I plan on purchasing a plinth and some further materials including Greenstuff and the DoS Gandalf at the end of the week.

Image
Template with Bilbo for scale. When I come to doing this out on polystyrene I may end up making the doorway bigger as it looks a little on the small side, bearing in mind that I will be sculpting both the brick and wood on the frame.

I intend to use Pritt Stick bodies which I cut to size today as the frames for the windows and door although I may end up getting some proper plastic tubing instead.

The wall is deliberately raised up a bit as there is a little step up to the doorway in the film and I intend to replicate that with a raised interior floor. The wall will be made out of 1inch thick polystyrene which I purchased a while ago. It's nice and sturdy so should do the job nicely. All the details are planned to be sculpted out of Greenstuff.

Tips and advice most welcome throughout this project (looking at you Gandlaf! :))
