Thanks for the comments guys, i have been out with the grey paint this afternoon, and the black paint to add shading. when it is all dry i will pick out the detail with some dry brushing.

Love making scenery, its very relaxing with a great feeling of accomplishment.
Just glad the weather has been good, back to work tomorrow so will try to get some time on it in the evening.

Looking good so far. Can I give you some pointers? (dont why I am asking, I'm gonna give them anyway).
Try doing some subtle highlights with scorched brown (just remember to wipe off most of the paint from the brush before drybrushing so it is not just straight scorched brown). Stone work is seldomly just shades of grey and I think you will find that the brown will enhance the appearance.

Have you plans for incorporating moss and sparse foliage amongst the rocks ?

Yes I am going to go to town on it, still early days at the moment. I have got some of the Noch ivy and plan to visit the model shop this week to stock up.

done a few more of the Second Age metal Orcs, these are in addition to the pictures posted earlier in my WIP. Keeping the Eye on them to unite the Orcs as a unit.

This is my current WIP, along with some Gandalfs, that i will post soon

The base for weathertop looks excellent. The finished article will be pretty impressive for sure.

Love the rockwork so far - I would go a bit further than just brownish highlights - the base colours should incorporate deep browns in areas or streaks, maybe deep dark green where you are planning to add moss as a base colour for wetter lichenous areas. Then just as you drybrush and highlight in lighter greys, do the same with the browns. Grey may be the dominant tone but with enough browns, it adds interest and is less monochromatic.
I could waffle on for hours about rocks and minerals (geologist long ago, mountain climber and landscape photographer). Look at the many, many varieties of rocks around the world - some of the colours and textures are highly unusual. All we can do in 28mm is give a facsimile.
I love the Second Age Orcs. The Eye-cons (dreadfull pun ah-ha) on the shield and banner are beautifully painted.

Great orcs! I still think the (nevertheless fantastic looking!) burning eyes are a bit too artsy and too well executed for orcish craftmanship, but thats just my opinion. You did a geat job on those orcs and can be proud of them!

Still have to get to the hobby shop, it closed for a week last week, is that sort of shop, but a good one.

The scenery is very much work in progress and lives in the shed at the moment, once the base is finished I shall start on the resin Weathertop.

Rognarr I agree with you, they are a bit artsy, but I wanted to do something a bit different with them, I am currently painting about 80 plastic Orcs for a regular wotr game in a much more Orcish paint scheme.

Just finished painting 2 Gandalfs to add to the collection.

The base is meant to be the broken floor of Orthanc.

This one is from the plastic FOTR set, which i think is a great set.

You can tell my older figures, this year i changed the base rim colour to black.

and here is my (Gaggle???) of Gandalfs.
