I saw The Hobbit film last night and liked it a lot. There were a couple of bits that bothered me about the film itself, and a few about the mini range.

I bought Escape from Goblin Town and I bought the finecast Bolg and Fimbul. I didn't see either of them, or Grinnah for that matter, in the film. Nor did I see "Yazneg" who was supposedly the Warg rider leader.

If anyone who has seen the film can point them out to me, I would appreciate it. Just for my own edification.

Fimbul was definitely seen in the film.

He was the Hunter put in charge after the first one failed to kill the dwarves and was slain by the White Warg

I'm sure I saw Bolg during

the flashback to Moria
, but some believe otherwise.

Yeah, I thought I saw Bolg for a flash or two as well. Seems odd that they would market a "nobody" character so much.

I am 99% sure that Bolg was not in the first film, only Azog...but I may very well be wrong.

^Well you're 1% off. Because I remember him being clubbed in the back in the flashback battle for Moria. So unless it's a look a like Bolg, I'm pretty sure I saw him, especially after reading message boards of people seeing him in the same scene I saw him in. He only lasts for a few seconds in the scene.

I'm pretty sure that it's a look alike, especially seeing as he was most likely killed in that scene. Yazneg was the first leader, who was fed to the wargs, Fimbul was the one who took over and Grinnah was the goblin that discovered Orcrist. Narzug, however, wasn't anywhere to the best of my knowledge.

Bolg was in the flashbacks, but according to the books he is also in the battle of the five armies. I can't wrap my head around why we had him released yet no Azog on White Warg yet...

I can't really wrap my mind around why they wouldn't have Azog killed by Dain like he was in the Tolkien timeline let alone why he wasn't released before Bolg.

"It was Dain Ironfoot, Nain's son. Right before the doors he caught Azog, and there he slew him, and hewed off his head." - LOTR Appendix A III Durin's Folk

Dain seems to be getting set up to be a bit of an ass, really. He refused to give his support to the Company. I wonder how they'll get around that and suddenly have him show up with an army.

Yeah it is a bit confusing as the orc characters aren't named in the film (much like Lurtz, Gothmog, Ugluk etc. weren't named in LOTR) but having come back from my 2nd viewing tonight (still loved it!) and keeping an eye out I largely agree with Draugluin:

Yazneg is the first warg leader who is killed by Azog and thrown to the Wargs

Fimbul is the other orc who walks onto Weathertop with Yazneg and who then takes over.

Grinnah is the goblin who finds Orcrist and has a few lines.

I was looking out for the Bolg-alike/Bolg this time and he appears to be cut down by what appears to be Dwalin. It was honestly too quick to say one way or another if it was him, my personal opinion is that it wasn't him but I could well be wrong.

Narzug is no-where to be seen as far as I can tell.

It seems a little odd that they have made Grinnah/Yazneg/Fimbul such big merchandise leaders (they've all got action figures too) and have such tiny roles in the film but that could be down to last minute cutting.

GW were clearly informed about the change from 2 to 3 films as can be seen from the scenarios ending with the eagle escape and the lack of pictures/profiles for all the Mirkwood stuff. This presumably means at some point Bolg and Narzug were going to be in the first film, GW will be working from a script/plot notes and not from the finished edit, my guess would be that Narzug was present in extended warg scenes and Bolg had a stronger presence in the flashback sequence but were all trimmed out for timing reasons.

Perhaps the strangest thing is that there's no profile for Yazneg in the book but they're releasing a model for him (you can see him on p114).

Really looking forward to the Azog model though, that should look fantastic (although sadly cost a bomb as it will almost certainly be finecast). Also, having seen the movie a couple of times now I don't feel the need to buy the new hunter orcs/warg riders, I really don't think they look that different to the old ones so will stick to Mordor orcs and warg riders and maybe add a few of the new characters.

I'm hoping that they release two versions of him, He looks awesome but I would want him from the battle at Moria so that he still has both arms. Just personal taste.

I totally forgot about Narzug!

I think Yazneg could be released as a Hunter Orc Captain or something. Not that there was anything like that mentioned in the February release. Mind you, finecast Thorin and Company wasn't mentioned for Feb either. Hopefully that means that we'll get at least one more wave of releases between March and December '13.

Or maybe Yazneg's character was cut down significantly during production and GW abandoned plans to release him. In that case, I imagine DMS and IsleStaggerholm will be paying a pretty penny down the road... ;)

I think you're probably spot on there, there's a profile for a captain and no other model that I can see. GW might well have been sent production photos of him as 'hunter orc captain' and sculpted the figure as such. He may well have only been upgraded to a named character when he had to deliver lines to Azog. I've recently discovered that the whole Azog subplot was added after the decision to make it 3 films so it is perfectly possible that before then he was just a generic, unnamed captain in the script.

The only possible issue with this is that the model has a spear which is not an option for a Hunter Orc Captain.

His spear thing could count as a two-handed weapon. It looks more like a blade than a spear.

You know, Yazneg was actually pretty cool. The action figure and the mini make him look a lot more pink-y than he appeared in the film.

Any idea whether Fimbul

survived the Eagle attack at the end
? Just to note, his foot mini is quite a bit smaller than a Hunter Orc...
