Knights of dol amroth

Has anyone had experience with the foot knights of dol amroth they seem quite good , strength 4 def 7 and a nice special rule , not too badly costed either.

That's about right. High def infantry should be 30pt (ie WOMT/Morranans are too cheap) then a little more for the ability.

So, for 5 points more than the WoMT (by your point costs), you would get +1 str, +1 courage, +1 fight and a great ability. Makes WoMT kinda useless.

The only one of those abilities that I'd pay points for would be the Dol Amroth bonus, which while good - is not great. I wouldn't pay 10pts for that lot so the rounding has to go some way.

I don't think 30pt Def 7 troops would ever be useless in this game. 30pts is a good floor but you can't start pricing other troops impractically high just to have a theoretical margin, it has to reflect their usefulness in-game and especially in the context of the Gondor + Arnor list.

I agree with Xelee, 30pts for WoMT and 35pts for FSKoDA is fairly reasonable given the circumstances. At those pts, both are useful.

That's all very nice guy , but unfortunate At the end of the day their 45 points ,there's also many other troops in the game that need their costs looking at , but does this mean you never play them ? or have your group agreed on a different point system? Xelee when you play a 1000 point army is it just all WOMT , do you ever play rare or legendary formations?. What would you throw against a MM army with a dragon ?

hey, Docdeath

I use them, I have a formation of 3 companies I use once in a while and not only do I enjoy the look of the unit, but I have found them fun to play as well. I think the extra strength is nice.

I like them with a unit of Knights of Dol Amroth, those really have done well for me, I use a formation of 4 to 5 companies of mounted.

I have mixed feelings about them, I saw a whole formation move in to charge my Gorgoroth Orc horde only to be wiped out before they got there, but I have charged opponents with them and cleared an entire formation. Yesterday I used four and killed the troll chieftain to the loss of one knight.

I like the look, their heavy cavalry status, but points wise, if you can afford them, take them!

I'm glad you got the answer you were looking for.

Yes I do use all WOMT, Archers, Axemen, Veterans, Rangers, and Knights. I think the other units are all over priced.

Dragons aren't so tough, just as tough as their nearly 500pts would suggest and need to be focused on accordingly.

I would not take the foot knights, simply becasue they cant have lances and are overcosted. Just spam WOMT
