After the dragon has done a shooting attack with his fire breath can he call a heroic charge in the next phase and charge?

Yes, just like normal archers can.

The rules on page 42 state that a formation is not permitted to charge if it has made a shooting attack in the shoot phase
The description of a heroic charge, found on p66, simply states that it allows the chosen formation to charge before other models that are making heroic actions. No where does it state that a heroic charge allows a formation that has made a shooting attack to then charge.
As a formation that has made a shooting attack cannot charge, it cannot call a heroic charge.

Oh yes, they are right actually, i got confused between heroic move/heroic shoot and heroic shoot/heroic charge because i haven't been seeing many archers recently. The former is ok but the latter is not.

EDIT: But because the rules don't actually say it can't be done, you could potentially argue the reverse.

Thanx stormcrow for the link! Thought I had the wrong book. Mine says that my Dragon can do anything because it's such a cool looking beast. But I suppose i will play to your rule book!

I think you will find he can heroic charge. Pg 58 states under thrown weapons that

A company that makes a shooting attack with thrown weapons may charge in the same turn.

A dragon's fire breath doesn't count as a throwing weapon.

:P

But basically, yeah, it is just another shooting attack. I know it took some time for me to get my ahead around the fact that the fire breath worked just like really strong bows (which means it gets something like 9 dice. I know that in my first few games I only rolled a single die for the dragon's breath attack and that is wrong.)
