How do you guys feel about them? Because I have to say they're pretty damn cheap in terms of playing. Horn blowers have the ability to boost your entire army's courage up by 1. Every single model, so long as one horn blower is alive on the field. And I'm guessing that if you have more than 1 it is not accumulative.

The thing is that my friend, whom I meet up with every once and a while for a game, is quite content in having his horn blower tucked away in an isolated corner behind cover never moving him once. Smart, but that's what I find cheap about it. It would be great if horn blowers were given a range of 12" or something, but not even. No range is given at all. We could have a house rule but my friend wouldn't be so open to that since he has a horn blower and I don't.

In any case horn blowers are much worth the 20 points to boost your entire army's courage up by 1. To me that makes a difference when it comes to taking courage tests. So I guess the models are well worth the $$$ or time to convert a model if you're using one for SBG.

I agree, a range would be better. Considering a drum is 100 points, and you can offset it for 20 seems a bit unbalanced.

I guess it's just one of those things with WOTR models with SBG rules... :(

If they didn't give a range to it for SBG (haven't seen the article myself) then that seems like a simple, but serious, oversight. In SBG this most definitely should have a range. GW has, until now, done a lot to limit "unlimited range" options in SBG (Radagast's special rule being the only one still in effect that I can think of right now).

Hobbit archers have been able to carry horns since the Scouring of the Shire supplement. I don't think it is that overpowered as it is pretty easy to kill and it only really starts to have an effect once the force is broken, and you have had plenty of time to kill it. If he leaves it behind something alone, just send a horseman to make quick work of him.

Well that's just it, there are ways of dispatching the blower if he's left isolated. A horseman is the best way, until next game he wises up and puts his blower somewhere isolated on the field where no horse can climb. Also it is a bit out of a way to go after a horn blower, especially when he's behind enemy lines and the scenario calls for objectives that aren't destroy the enemy army. Going after a horn blower is like a side quest objective in a match. That's really what it is. Just like going after a banner bearer, you want to get rid of all the opposition's perks. At least a banner bearer sticks with the army because of the range.
